Recruiting rankings are like potential, they look great on paper and give people something to talk about, but they don't mean öööö unless your team is meeting expectations and winning.
The recruiting ranking game is a joke. Like everything else in sports today it is driven by $$$. Pushy parents are paying big sums to “coaches” and “trainers” who promise to get their kids noticed. There is no question the big brokers pay big time to get their clients a higher evaluation. Ten years ago I would have said that if you had the talent, potential and performance you would get noticed and recruited. Now, I would say unless you are truly an elite talent, you will have to spend a lot for a favorable rating. And, if you are a good college prospect but do not have parents that get you to the right camps, all star games, and exhibitions and connect you with the right trainers, coaches and brokers you will probably get no or lesser offers.

Coaches play along because they know fans will praise them for recruiting the kids with the most stars and best reputations, even if those stars are unearned and reputations overstated. And, those fans will not appreciate you signing a lot of lightly regarded players, even if you did your homework and know they can play. It is sad how much less contact there is today with high school coaches in evaluating talent. We would rather listen to the private coaches, trainers, and other self-proclaimed experts making cash as a part of the recruiting process.

All it is is a resume, you don’t know what you are getting until they get in the door. 5 star or 3 star, I would like to think most coaches do more work in recruiting to know they got the right recruit, not the most highly rated recruit. Especially when you know you can’t compete with the super programs in this age.

Even if you get it right, the "super programs" will probably just purchase the player after you confirm their ability. The only players that can be counted on for the next season are players who have used up their free transfer.

I usually go back around this time of year to go and watch the incoming freshmen highlight film. One thing I did notice is Zach Pyron plays a lot like Andy Dalton. He could be huge for us IF we use him. He is one of the most college-ready QBs we have gotten in a long time. Now, I know Sims is coming up off his second Freshman year, and he's going to be a sophomore next year. That means we probably won't see Pyron until his RS-Junior year. That's why Gleason and Chayden wanted out. They would have been RS-Seniors by the time they touched the field.

No, like thats an added bonus, but it’s mainly his throwing style, the way he moves in the pocket, and how good of an arm he has. He’s a better runner (but that’s mainly how the new era of QBs are), but they throw the same.

Lightsey is an OLB out of Fitzgerald that we've been recruiting hard but was committed to Florida back in the summer. But that staff was smashed up so he's back on the block and we have a decent shot. We hosted him on an OV last summer already.
He signed with UGA... and since has been shot multiple times in the back and shoulder. Signed at the cesspool and then this...that's a tough month right there.

Expected to recover. Thoughts and prayers.
