Hire Brent Key

So I'm having trouble fairly evaluating Key as a potential candidate because how much of a difference can an interim coach who takes over midseason really have? It's not like he had time to implement his own system or find his own players. How do we know our team wouldn't have performed this way anyway? Is there something specific he has done that changed things? For those who back Key, what specifically do you point to (other than we won some games under his watch) that shows he is a difference maker and has a great system in place?

No, I’m saying that we’re giving success to Key, but blaming the coordinators for our downfall. Like we’re saying Key won us this game, when really it was Thacker. Key has had 0 dealings with the defense, even though they’re the reason we win games. Key has been dealing with the offense, and they’re the reason we suck when we lose, and barely skid by when we win.

Did collins make our defense suck for 3.5 years or did thacker? We had nearly the worst pass def under a hc that had tons of dealings with defense. What changed?

Again, we’re blaming Chip for the offense (which Key has worked on offense his entire career), but praising key for the win, when we were carried by the defense (which Key has literally never coached before, and I doubt he’s taking full reigns on it now.) Are we really this high on recency bias?

You could make the same argument with Charleston Southern. In terms of football they were nobody before and nobody now. His record at CS and virtually the same as his record at CC at this point. He has hit all the indicators so far in his career that say he is a consistent winner. The question for us is, is it enough to take a chance on that next potential winning team being us?

They were nobody while he was there too. Simply put, Chadwell is unproven at P5 level & I'm leery of going down the Collins road again.
Charleston Southern is practically high school football.

There was also bringing in Tillman/Turner, and a lot of DB production from those bad years was replaced this year.

Collins. You’re answering your own question here. We sucked under Collins, and we’re better since he’s gone.

A lot of tards still ööööting on Chip Long even after yesterday's game. The dude has done a damn good job of tailoring game plans to the strengths of the team. Yeah, it isn't exciting, but it was effective and put the players in a position to be successful. Don't ask players to do things they can't do.

He gave them their first 10 win season ever… and he did it twice in 4 years… and again, like I’ve said 100 times already. Most coach’s start out at the G5 level before being pulled up to bigger and better things.

Also balanced AF.

Deferring to the ST armchair coaching professionals, is having a better than average defense even a consideration anymore in today’s college football landscape?

If Key is going to be the guy I think we'll see it announced this week.

The result against U[sic]GA won't play into the decision at all, because realistically we should be blown out just like 90 percent of other teams would be. And it would make sense to want to announce it before the blowout.

Not when you’re an offensive coach that has never touched the defensive side of the ball in your life.
