Well UNC gave up an average of 30 points per game defensively before playing us. They are statistically one of the worst defenses in FBS. 21 points isn’t hard to imagine. Thacker and 17 on the other hand is what was impressive.
 
Tech this year had the talent to win the coastal. Collins and Key both wet the bed and lost winnable games. But Key has managed to not lose to a couple of over rated teams and some idiot fans want to hire him as the next head coach. Because he’s a Tech man. Wow, Tech fans really are dumb about football and should stick to calculus.

If J is dumb enough to do so….Tech mediocrity will be the ceiling for the next 6 years. This take is gonna cause a lot of butthurt rage. Just remember. I warned y’all about Collins when he was hired. (Ok only some of y’all who are also on that other idiotic message board that banned me for Collins and Key bashing) Enjoy the offseason fellas.

Right now, McCall is projected to be one of the first 10 QBs to be drafted to the NFL in April. Pyron looked good against VPI but atrocious against FSU and Miami. You wanting to elevate a Frosh based on 3 games above a guy who'll be drafted in April is asinine.

He played a couple drives in FSU. And being top 10 QB isn’t that impressive. But he’s projected that high bc of his teams record, and who is at the helm?

not saying key should get HC job, but does deserve some credit. all of our recent W's would've been L's with clown, so key is doing something.

I don't get the idea that you've watched much NFL or football in general with your comments. Pyron is still an unknown. McCall will be holding a clipboard on an NFL sideline. To say that the unknown is better than an NFL backup is cute homerism but amateur-hour commentary at the same time.

Pyron will certainly face a tougher schedule than McCall and Chadwell ever faced at Coastal so perhaps we'll get to see what Chadwell's magical offense does against real P5 defenses, rather than the Old Dominions of college football.
 
Apparently many of the players really, really like Key, which should not be a determining factor in the decision. However, it needs to be considered; if Key isn’t hired it’s quite possible many will leave and those that don’t won’t be motivated similar to how it was when Ross replaced Curry. Ross overcame it, but in todays world if the new coach starts out with a 1, then a 3 win season, his time here will be short unless he’s a Bobby Ross caliber coach. Key and his crew are also being fairly successful at recruiting, despite the uncertainty of who the coach will be.

As far as Key’s OL coaching, I think it was a scenario not unlike Thacker’s where the former HC‘s practice philosophy and interference sabatoged the OL and defense. The OL actually had a good game Saturday despite losing 2 starters. The losses to UVA and Miami can be blamed on injuries to QBs, and the coaches still working to overcome the Collins hangover.

Remember, the off-season is where conditioning and fundamentals are implanted into the team, it’s difficult to overcome what wasn’t accomplished in the offseason during the week of game prep, but IMO Key has done an outstanding job. If Collins had been fired a year ago and Key hired, I’d say we would be ranked at this point and not considered a sacrificial lamb for the #1 team this week.

Not blaming Collins for keys failure as OL coach....sorry
 
Key is the best man for the job. One, he knows the program and the rebuild can occur more quickly. Two, he has earned it. He took over a dumpster fire and won games with alot of injuries and inherited some bad attitudes (Sims for example). Three, he wants the job and is affordable. Four, he has Chip Long in place of the offense. Five, he handles himself like an adult and it is refreshing to see someone on the sidelines that coaches football and eliminates all the rah rah. If he is not given the job, we bring in yet another unknown. Given some time to overcome all the *#* left behind by Collins, he will be the coach we need.
