Paul Johnson is the Mike Leach of the college running game.
Both men were huge innovators and mentors to many future coaches, as well as consultants to some in the NFL.
Both were great for a soundbite, and both will be together one day in the HoF.

I thought Richt's last few years at Miami would show he was much better at coaching when he had better players than his opponents.

I've met Richt and despite his muttness, he's not a bad dude. Have heard him speak at FCA banquets and he can be very entertaining. Tells a great story about he was an all American at night life in Miami but a buddy of his was the Heisman trophy winner. He also talks about being the fourth best quarterback in the world and nobody knew it. He backed up Jim Kelly in college, went to the NFL and his first role was backup to Elway and then got cut and went to Miami to back up Dan Marino.
I think he and PJ got along OK. Maybe not to the extent PJ and former Falcons coach Mike Smith are tight, but they are at least very cordial to one another.
Of course, nothing beats the voicemail PJ left for Donnan one day. It was right after the Dogs had a big season opening win and Loran Smith's first question was about all the cramping up from the heat and Donnan got hot.
PJ: "Hey, Jim, I heard you had some problems with cramping up Saturday."
(PJ to me: "He hasn't called me back.")
