DRad begging for ticket sales...way behind

Excuses, Excuses.

1. Wah.
2. You don't have to take 2 days. A friend and I are taking 1 day. Leaving at lunch on Tuesday and coming back on the 10am flight on Wed. Half day Tuesday PM and half day Wed. AM.

All I hear is excuses out of people when they just need to man up and figure it out. Seriously. Eat Ramen for a month.

Look at hotels at the FLL airport - they are cheaper. (and FYI the airport is closer to the stadium than Miami)

I see the issue with people not going..
1. Christmas is 11 days before the game, most people have already spent a ton of money on their families not to mention if they travel to see others..
2. the game is on a Tuesday, which means you need to take two days off to go.
I'm not trying to make excuses but I can see where people are coming from. This is a BCS bowl. How many times will this happen for GT. It's been 40+ years since weve been to a major bowl.. I hope this is something that continues to happen under CPJ.. i hope we sale a good bit of those tickets as our team needs the support..

1) I know two guys that asked off Tuedsay at work...but expect to be in the office by 9am the next morning. They are driving down to the game...cheering on the Jackets...then driving back all night (taking turns sleeping) to be at work by 9am Wednesday.

2) Not that I recommend this...but I learned today of someone in my community that is an Alabama fan and is cash strapped. They sold their hot tub (spa) to pay for tickets and travel to the Rose Bowl. They said they will buy another one this summer when things loosen up and he can get 12 months no interrest deals.

Reminds me of a Nascar race about 5 years ago. Tickets generally aren't cheap and as me and a friend were walking out these two hillbilly guys behind us were talking to each other. One said "sh*t, I had to hock my rifle to get a ticket for this".

I seriously almost fell down, but that's true passion. Sell one of your 12 computers or other gadgets laying around the house. If you are serious about your team time and money shouldn't be a concern. Now sure if you have some work commitment that you just can't skirt I'm not suggesting you lose a sale or anything, but most of the excuses on this thread are SAD at best.

Aww puddin'. You people make me sick with excuses.

True fans make it happen. Period.

Here's a novel idea....stay with me here....

Get on a plane the afternoon of gameday, fly to Florida, get off the plane, go to the game, come back to the airport, get on an early bird, fly back home, go to work....of course this will require staying sober, or at least refraining from absolute poisoning....

I just tried to expand my order by 7 tickets and nobody answered the phone at the AA. Ah, "It's Great to be a Yellow Jacket. I said it's Great to Be a Yellow Jacket."

In general it feels like the GTAA does everything it can to make the ticket buying process as painful as possible. They could easily increase their ticket sales just by making it easier to buy them.

I was not calling out anyone's fandom. I was calling out hypocrisy.

This forum is very quick to point to "excuses" made by coaches (generally followed by implying they should be fired/replaced/etc.). I was simply pointing out the "excuses" made by some on this thread seemed to me to be similar.

Take care...Mike

I'll even do one more. If there are any active GT students who want to go to the game but cannot afford a ticket, I will purchase a ticket for the first one to PM me. I challenge each of you to do the same....Mike

I dont understand how people can call out fans for not going, because we CAN'T not DON'T want to go. Some of us can't go, im a college student, on minimum wage gotta pay for books with the money i would spend on going to the game. I really want to go, but I CAN'T. I love GT with every ounce of my body and give what I can by going to games and screaming my lungs out, by selling a lab puppy to a particular GT linebacker's girlfriend, and by overall repping the Institute to everyone. Fans can still love Tech even if they CAN'T attend this, the first of MANY Orange Bowls

cannot get much easier than ordering online. ..right?

This is an awesome idea TJ. Great way to show support while not being able to attend. As I cannot attend for reasons other than being a "bad fan" I'll second your offer. I'm awaiting a PM. Any one else want to step up as well?

Here is what I recommend.

#1. Don't DEMAND a non-refundable "application fee".

#2. Don't jack another 8 bucks on an already ridiculously overpriced tickets for horrible seats.

#3. Give points for buying bowl tickets through AA.

That is all I have to say about that. I'll be buying mine on the street.

Wrong.

For example, they could show us exactly where our seats would be before we purchase. It is available now but previously you were expected to pay on a wing and a prayer of where you would sit. People want to know exactly what they are buying.

I wasn't going to ring in on this but I will anyway:

I have been a season ticket holder since I graduated in 1996. I bought back all my years of school also since 1991. I have donated more money to GT than probably 95% of the people on this board.

However, I am a product of this economy. My industry (Construction) has been hit harder than any industry in the United States.

I am 36 years old, have a wife and two little girls under the age of two and out of necessity last year, broke from my old company and started a new one. In the worst economy that my parents and grandparents have ever seen. I'm just trying to stay alive. At this point, not renewing my season tickets next year is a real threat. I have mouths to feed. It sucks but that's the truth. Never thought in my dreams I'd be struggling like I have recently.

Watching this GT team has been bitter sweet this year. After having pained through the Chan Gailey years supporting this team to the fullest, this was the first year ever I had to sell my tickets to any game. Typically, if I couldn't go to a game, I would give them freely to a GT fan. No charge. I still went to Clemson, VT, and the UGA games this year because there was no way I would miss those games.

When I realized that we were indeed going to have a special season, I knew that with my responsiblities around the house and trying to make a living and keeping my family afloat, more than likely I would not be able to go to any post season games.

Well, I ended up convincing my wife to let me go to one of the two, ACC Championship or Bowlgame. I chose the ACC Championship game because quite honestly, it was easier on my family and less expensive. I split a cheap hotel room with Wesley21, and drove us.

When we won the game, my wife and I tried to figure out any means necessary that we could go to the Orange Bowl. I know, first time in 43 years. Its big. Biggest game GT's been in since I've been a fan. And realistically, we couldn't figure out any situation that would allow for it.

Times are tough for many of us, even for me. I'm not going and it kills me. But I got two little girls to support and a company to build with zero work going on. I'm making as someone else put it in this thread, "Big Boy Decisions". Spending at the very MINIMUM $250 to sleep in the Cum Shot Inn, tickets, and gas to the game as opposed to buying my daughters Christmas presents, is a REAL choice for me. As I'm sure it is for many.

So while I appreciate the guys trying to pump the fans up to go to the game, you need to back the **** off some of us. I've read this thread and quite frankly would love nothing more than to tatoo some of you in the face with my fist. Seriously. The new font who comes on here and calls someone "puddin", pm me. I'll give you my home address and you can come to Savannah and call me puddin while I proceed to kick your ****ing teeth in. After that, the only word you'll ever say again is "puddin" because that's about the only thing the hospital is going to be able to ****ing feed you.

I'm glad there are those who can support GT right now, and if you can scratch together the cash to go to this game, I hope you go. I want nothing more than to see the White and Gold out in force. But for those of us who can't and have supported GT just as much if not moreso than you, I wish you'd just learn when to shut your ****ing trap. And that goes for you Hiveredtech. I appreciate the enthusiasm but some of us really can't go to this game. You want to make me feel worse about that than I already do? Go ahead... I'll give you my home address and you can do so in person.

Could I sacrifice going to this game? Sure I could... but that sacrifice is going to come at the expense of someone in my family and I'm just not going to do that. So kiss my ass.

+ Infinity.

Best. Post. Evar.

Hope things look up for you soon BOR.

I read an article in the WSJ today about kids asking Santa for socks or for jobs for their parents. The economic downturn has hit home much more than any downturn since the early-80's, and much worse than that for people in construction.

And logistically, the game is a nightmare. I'm impressed if you can take a total of less than four hours of travel from Atlanta to FLL and less than four hours back the next morning. That's keeping a lot of things tight and you never know when some random travel situation will blow up in your face. Sane people will take two full days off work to give some leeway in their itinerary.

And again, everybody has a price that would keep them from going, including the "no excuses" crowd. Most Wake fans probably got a yearly bonus before their game in 2006. Just about no Tech fans will get a bonus.

Ironically, I am going BECAUSE of the economy. My company is closing offices to save money with mandatory vacation that week.

So, I figure as long as I am being forced to burn vacation I might as well make it count.
