2012 Recruiting Thread

What are the chances we offer K/P Ryan Rodwell? I saw that he's supposed to be visiting us this weekend and it looks like he just has some smaller schools offering already.

I don't know what to say ... I am disappointed in CPJ's recruiting. I don't understand why we are so bad at it.

Any player that ND can get, we can get too. In terms of academic prestige we are close. They have a red-faced loudmouth as a coach and we have a solid, quiet guy as HC and pretty nice old dude at DC. How is it that all our highly ranked recruits are on D?

If Penn state was Linebacker U and Cal was QB U I see no reason why we can't be RB U. Imagine 2-3 elite RBs tearing up the field every season!

Well his dimeanor cant be that attractive to recruits....but then again look at Nick Saban

Justin Thomas?

Defense is where they need the most help. Unless you have a really good DL your defense can only be average at best. A good DL will do wonders for a defense (pass rush specifically). Both Bama and UGA flourished in year two after they went to the 3-4 and that's because they had good DL players. Tech didn't improve much in year two. If the don't upgrade the DL considerably we'll only see minimal to no improvement in Groh's defense. Tech will never sign the same type of players that Bama and UGA get, but enough of an upgrade will help tremendously. Not landing Tuitt last year hurt bad. We can't have a repeat this year, especially with DL talent.

Its good that we have great guys on D. All I am saying is that with 20 years of coaching experience CPJ could easily recruit great guys on O - if he wanted to. I think there is some hesitation in GT football - as if waiting for something to happen. Its like everyone is holding a little bit back.

agreed NJ....for GT it will be vital that we find great QB's for CPJ's system. Justin Thomas fits the bill. This is the second year in a row we have landed QB's with other major offers...we have 3 in Lee, Andrews, and Thomas.

If he wanted to?? So CPJ is the Bobby Knight of College Football??

Look, CPJ is pretty good and GT is pretty good.

Hoke, at Michigan has not even decided what his offense is going to be like. Forget pro-style/option, he will run his offense based on his athletes.

Remarkably, Michigan has a top 5 recruiting class. How is that possible? They were awful for 4 years. They didn't win the conference, lost to MSU at home. Yet, they have highly recruited guys on O and D.

Hoke didn't leave Bama/LSU/OU to come to Michigan. He came from Bowling Green and SDSU. Explain that.

Hoke is from Ohio, coached at Michigan previously, has coached in and around the Great Lakes region his entire coaching career sans Oregon State and SD State, and Michigan is the big dog in that area along with Ohio State.

Add to this fact that playing for michigan means playing for the winningest team in college football history, 100 thousand fans, AND a great school on top of that...not that difficult to explain.

Ok, agreed. Lets compare schools.
Michigan - 100000 fans, big-dog in MI/OH, great school. Recruiting rank - top 5.

GT - 50000 fans, non-small-dog in GA, AL, FL, SC, TN, great school.
Recruiting rank - not even top 50.

Explains everything, right?

Add in the pushback from the Hill we get on academic exceptions due to flunkgate, and that about covers it.

And you forgot to mention Michigan is a University that offers and large array of majors compared to GT being a Tech school with a lesser amount of majors to choose from
