New ACC 2024-2030 Schedule Release Tonight

I'm not seeing anything positive. UNC avoids us like the plague with only 2 matchups over 7 years...decided they can't beat us so won't even play anymore. We still keep the awful matchups with Wake and Loserville 5 out of 7 years. 2026 and 2030 home schedules are vomit-inducing. Only 3 games vs. FSU and Miami. And no Clemson to buoy our home schedule every other year. ACC left us with the scrapheap and I'm sure we were more than willing to sit down and take it.
Bent over and took it

Let’s just win the games on our schedule whatever it is. Then we can play the Oklahomas and Ohio States and Alabamas of the world. It’s a 12 team playoff next year. Just beat these teams and consistently make the playoffs. That’s what I want. I don’t really care about the Clemson series or not playing FSU every other year.

Previous AD gave us a monster schedule every year. Batt is going to schedule for wins, banking on the momentum of winning to drive attendance as opposed to matchups
I’m perfectly fine with that. Having a great schedule with great match ups doesn’t mean öööö when you’re losing half the games. Plus it’s the ACC. All of these are the same team with different logos.

2025 Clemson and UGAg at home, but 2026 both on the road.
Clemson is sliding and is going to be the equivalent of playing VT or Carolina soon.

Clemson, uga, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida can’t all be juggernauts at the same time. Right now it’s uga and Alabama to a lesser extent. 5 years ago it was Clemson and Alabama. Way before that it was Tennessee and Florida. We need all of those teams to improve and the pull players from uga again.

This is a viable strategy. (Not necessarily one I would choose but I get the idea.) That said, giving the ACC carte blanche to set our schedule does not maximize this strategy. And that’s ignoring the leverage we have of making the league’s job easier. If we got no concessions (and it’s certainly possible there are concessions we may never know about, so perhaps some benefit of the doubt is warranted) that’s a dereliction of an AD’s duty.

Add FSU to that list. Geographically closer than UF, and potentially taking a chunk out of Bama/Clemson right now.

12 team playoff, very smart schedule. And we still get your darlings on occasion, Nc cheat and klempsum. Agree, as long as we have Ugag on sked, randomize the conference. And yes, it may change with realignment. So why worry?

Just win babeeee! Bowl this year. 9-3 next year. Playoffs in 2025!

Mind rite!!!

Duke, Clemson, and UNC are all in the top 5 in terms of games played against, and top 6 in terms of wins against.

I am a traditionalist so there is a part of me that feels that at least one of these opponents should have been a protected rivalry. But if there was ever a time to forget about rivalries and let go of the past, we are now at that time.

Tech moved on from rivalries with Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, and Tulane, so no longer playing more recent rivalries annually will ultimately pass with time. Just win games, whoever the opponent may be.

I think Batt has decided to continue the Benz games. We likely never see CU, FSU at GrantHyundaiDodd. But we do have flexibility to sneak in some games against Ohio State and Michigan, or Auburn and Tennessee if you prefer.

It’s impossible to know who will have strong teams in a given year, but the 4 teams that “should” be head and shoulders better are FSU, Clemson, Miami and NC. We only play these teams 12 times in 7 years. I like that.

The narrative that the Clemson game is holding us back from greatness is weird. They might be the difference between getting to bowl eligibility this year. That’s where we’re at right now as a program.

Our not-so-distant goal is to not be stuck in the ACC, and that will be driven by TV viewership. Playing a rando ACC team for a more likely W isn’t going to get us more viewership than the Clemson game. I don’t even think that rando ACC game plus a bottom rung bowl game would make up the viewership difference. Short term greed for an extra W and a little more revenue money from the new sharing model isn’t worth the risk of getting passed over due to fewer tv eyeballs.
