OK. I will entertain your “Monken can recruit with the 3/0 fantasy”.
But still..Do you think he runs the TO better than Paul Johnson? Would he have better coordinators? You really believe that he would have taken over that roster that Paul Johnson left, recruited fresh talent and turned it into consecutive 7, 8 or 9 win seasons?

I don’t. And I would not trade Collins for Monken right now. Collins is a knucklehead coach. But he is an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator away from winning. He can recruit good talent.

Who is even talking about Monken recruiting with the 3/0? The discussion is about your position that he doesn't even recruit because he is at West Point. RW92 has transitioned that argument to recruiting at the academies is easy.

I don't even care if Monken runs the 3/0, it has been posted that Monken stated he would run something else if he was at a P5 school. What I think is that if we had hired Monken 3 years ago the transition to something else would have been smoother than what we witnessed. I think there are a lot of coaches who could have made that transition less of a train wreck.

I wouldn't hire Monken now either, that ship has sailed. As I posted earlier, I would hope we find an up and coming coach in his thirties or that Collins gets the program on track. It will take more than an OC or DC to fix his problem though, he needs both; and he probably needs to change the culture away from carnival to business.

Now that’s a new one. Good grief… and you believe that?

Does it ever actually cross any of you guys minds that if the 3/0 is so good, why isn’t it run in the NFL? I don’t see any teams in college football’s undisputed best conference (the SEC) running the 3/0.

Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame are good football programs. Are their coaches just too dumb to understand how to run the 3/0?

Let it go. The TO is dead and will with 99% certainly never be run on The Flats again.

Thanks goodness.
Did you just start reading in the middle. The appeal to Monken is that he is not a pure 3O coach, he can run the option with other elements. Do you watch the NFL? You do realize most teams have option plays they run, right?

A lot of good things happened with Gailey here too. Auburn, Miami, when they were both good teams.

Some did, yes. That 2006 team was still one of the best Tech teams I've seen in my life, and I have plenty of good memories from the Gailey era. But the highs were both higher and more numerous under CPJ.

Again, I know that there are arguments about how much CPJ is responsible for some of these, but it's not really surprising that CPJ is remembered more fondly than Gailey since he was the head coach when they happened.

Wins against top 10 teams: CPJ 5, Gailey 2
Division titles: CPJ 4, Gailey 1
Conference titles/NY6 wins: CPJ 1, Gailey 0
Highest finish: CPJ #7, Gailey never finished a season ranked
U[sic]GA wins: CPJ 3, Gailey 0

Of course CPJ also had much lower lows than Gailey, but people tend to remember the good more than the bad. And most people would take a mix of good and bad over consistent medium.

I’ve never even been to West Point. But I do know that 1. It’s an extremely prestigious degree 2. The players you are recruiting have no ambitions of playing professionally—- their commitment to the Armed Services pretty much denies them that. I tend to think that those two things would make it easier to recruit. After all, who are you recruiting against? Navy, Duke, Air Force, Harvard, Yale?
I’ll bet most people that play football for Army had no doubt they wanted to go there. There was never even a decision to be made. They wanted to go to the United States Mikitary Academy and serve in any capacity they could. Many of them had family that went there and they are legacies. USMA and Navy recruit themselves.

Wasn't Auburn top 10 when we beat them and Miami #3?

And we beat top 10, undefeated NC State. Shut down their offense.

Bobby Ross says it was very difficult, you and RW92 say it is easy. If you were me which would you believe?

If you are ever in the area you should tour the campus; both Annapolis and West Point are very beautiful and historic campuses.

Auburn was 17. Still a big win, of course.

You are right, I missed NC State, maybe because it was two digits. Updated.

UF receiver getting carted off; but it didn't look like targeting from what I saw.

UCF WR just Roddy Jones'd his way down the sideline
With Roddy Jones announcing

Can we get gus?

Lol at UF fighting after the game.. try and tell me they didn't want it

CPJ did manage to take our most talented team of the century and lose to UGAg's least talented team of the century.

The 09 mutt defense was so bad, they fired their DC...after he whipped PJ's mighty TO at BDS. ööööing embarrassing.

exactly and it's a point aeromech continues to dodge with tangential nonsense.

If you're saying that the service academies recruit themselves it's simply not true. Other have given Bobby Ross' example but even Paul Johnson. I can't remember it was maybe Dwyer or Roddy Jones, one of the original players was recruited by Johnson while at Navy and specifically said he didn't go there because he didn't want to get up at 5 AM and march, or something like that. That's not the only one.
