“Big Announcement in the Near Future”

Wow, no love for Indiana and Illinois.

There are about 60,000,000 reasons to switch to the B2G. That will cover travel costs.
We could only hope to have the optimism that the illini have this year. 2022 will surpass the collins 4 year win total!

So we admit we aren’t packing the house currently. We can have similar crowds in the Big Ten, but a much better payday in the process.
We would have similar crowds in the Big Ten, less interest since they are not traditional rivalries. We would do worse since most Big Ten teams are better than ACC. We would make more money from the bigger conference. Our donations would probably go down from lack of interest.

Iowa, Wisconsin. Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue …. Wow! I can see the tickets selling like hotcakes. I don’t see any difference between these games and UVA last Thursday night. We better get on our knees and beg the SEC.
2021 average home attendance:
Iowa - 66.4k - 95.9% capacity
Wisconsin - 73.1k - 91.0% capacity
Minnesota - 46k - 90.6% capacity
Illinois - 35.4k - 58.3% capacity
Purdue - 56.3k - 98.4% capacity
Rutgers - 44.7k - 85.1% capacity
Maryland - 37.9k - 70.2% capacity
Indiana - 47k - 88.8% capacity
Northwestern - 30.5k - 64.8% capacity

Then on top of that you have Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Ohio State, Nebraska who all sell out consistently and will travel well. Last year, GT averaged 35.8k for 65.1% capacity and that included a near sellout of the UGAg game. would have been much worse if not for that. We are averaging 34k this year with only one game left. The only ones in the B1G even close to our numbers are Illinois, Northwestern, and maybe Maryland. The rest all draw way more than us and would definitely be a draw to see them play in Atlanta.

This B1G talk needs to stop. We aren't even remotely appealing to them at this time. We have a bad football program. Our basketball team is last in the ACC preseason poll. We have a small fanbase and offer the D1 minimum in sports. We don't add anything to their league at this time. This isn't 2010 when leagues were looking to add households to their conference sports channels. The name of the game now is adding programs that move the needle nationally. Until we start winning and become a top 25 program that is interesting, we add nothing.

Your crazy if you think those schools wouldn’t draw better than Miami, Virginia, Duke this year; who will combine to bring 5K fans.
Miami typically has a good showing. I don’t like Miami but they do have fans everywhere.

It looks like you’ve missed my point. If you want to use a surgeon as an analogy, it’s possible to run a successful hospital even if you weren’t the top surgeon on staff. Different competencies.
So you are saying mediocrity is ok? That's exactly what I am getting out of this.

The elephant in the room is that it is the school presidents that will vote to decide if we get in. A move to the B1G could very well be for academic reasons right now. We are a top research university and already have research partnerships with Illinois, Rutgers and Michigan. Committing to pull other B1G schools into those partnerships would easily offset any current athletic deficiencies. And the athletics can easily be addressed with the infusion of cash the B1G's media contracts.

You are still getting them confused. The way I understand it, we cant move money that's currently in the endowment over to athletics because it is already earmarked for other things, but the school can make sure future contributions or larger parts thereof can be earmarked to go to athletics.
that will work

I hope the big announcement is that no coach will be on next year's staff, for football. We need an overhaul.. One done right. One done with coaches that know what they are doing. Key isn't the magical answer. The man failed... repeat FAILED as an O-line coach. If you cannot succeed at a singular level, there is nothing to suggest you will succeed at a higher level. Take the "tech man" concept away and use common sense. I know I am standing on this island, with my thoughts...and that's ok. I was right about Roof. I was right about Collins... But, what do I know?
Right on , on all points !!!

I’m not getting anything confused. I live in the real world. Anything can be done if the people in charge have the will to do it. Laws, by laws, contracts, anything can be changed. Sure, there is a process but it can be done. And it can get done quickly if the right people are willing to push it thru. Remember how fast the BOR pushed thru the enginneering program at UGA? Even though it shouldn’t have happened? It’s because once they had the numbers they simply changed the rules. It sounds like we finally have a President who is tired of googling GT and the first 5 pages are all negative. As he said, there is no reason our sports teams can’t be successful as well as the academic side. And it sounds like he knows where to get the money from.
You are correct. The money angle is called creative accounting.

I think you forgot about USC and UCLA.

These objections based on your limited if not non-existent knowledge of the B1G landscape by the time we are members (assuming it happens at all) are baffling. Have you even considered that Clemson &/or F$U may also be included?

That’s like saying you don’t want to join the SEC because Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas and Missouri.

Lol. I’m saying that everyone has a different skill set and it’s a leader’s job (AD in this case) to identify that and to place people where they can add the most value. I don’t know if Key is the guy, but HC and OL coach are different roles. He should be judged for the HC job based on his abilities as a HC, not based on his abilities as an OL coach. Particularly when signs point to CGC interfering with other coaches’ roles and inhibiting them from coaching the way they wanted to run things.

I could see the B1G going after UNC, UVa, FSU, GT, Clemson, and Miami (in that order). Clemson won’t move the needle on the B1G network because their fans are spread over NC and Ga where the school is not located. And SC doesn’t have a large population.
