2012 Recruiting Thread

Does anybody REALLY believe that Journalism is a legitimate career for the future, when any Twit can post news and opinion on the web? Do you need a special degree?

hence his desire for broadcast journalism and not journalism. He wants to be in television. Competitive major to get into...but not much money in it traditionally.

He wants to be in television.

A poster (fathead) on TOS made a great point and listed the number of former GT-athletes currently employed by ESPN and other sports networks.

Folks like Jon Barry, Ryan Stewart, etc.

Somebody needs to explain to him that it doesn't matter what your major was in college.

(I don't know if we're supposed to link to TOS or not.)

No real surprise: 4* Martin Aiken commits to Clemson (we were in his top 3 and recruiting him hard, for those who like the warm feeling of the familiar)

From the same school that Bowers and Ricky Sapp went to. Follows their lead to Clemson. You can say we had a chance, but the writing was already in the sand.

When was the last time we actually came out on top in one of these recruiting battles where there was strong competition?

IIRC, in 2010, Ryan Ayers, Denzel McCoy, and Anthony Williams (at least) committed to us early but had some big offers.

Vad Lee, Jeremiah Attoachu, and a few others as well.

Remember, you tend to remember the one's you lose, not the one's you get. It's never as good or as bad as it seems...

Every school loses recruits. Based on the scrolling recruiting list on ESPNU, it seems the big time schools lose as many or more than we do. That is the reason you start with a list as large as they do.

Thornton seems like he has a really good frame to play either A back or B back
Nick was AB all the way...definitely a perimeter runner. If we can land Thornton....he is more like the Perkins, Smith, Hill, etc. type that can be inside or out. Hopefully we will get Thornton, be done at RB, and forget about this spot.

Supposedly a report that he would have chosen GT if he had an offer earlier. Don't know the background on that however. Thornton just recently got an offer of course.
His father is full of crap....he just wanted his son in the Big 10 because that is where he played (Wisconsin). He would have gone there but they already took a RB and wanted Tompkins as a CB.

The excuse that we did not offer early enough is a joke. We offered in early March....about one year before signng day and stuck with him as our only AB target for many many months. When we told him a few weeks ago that he needed to make a decision because other kids were coming to camps to show the deserved a scholly and could earn one he did not seem to care...or should I say the family did not seem to care because Nick had GT as a leader for a long time.

Hopefully we can forget about this one real soon.
