3-3. Improvement.

I’m not seeing it. UVA and VPI are both much better than Duke and have good coaching staffs. They will be able to run and hang with us. I will root for a win but they will be surprising to me. We really were very close to losing this game badly, we are more like Kansas than UNC.
I'm not sure UVA is that much better than Duke honestly.

Just feels like both sides of the ball don't have an idea of what their "identity" is and the coaches seem afraid to stick with anything even if it's working

Yea, uh... I think we're sticking to running between the tackles pretty solid. We did that a lot today.

And by running between the tackles, I mean DLs grabbing our guards' arms and going "stop tackling yourself! stop tackling yourself!" and flinging them into Gibbs like 300-lb frisbees for a 1 yard loss.

Just curious…could someone provide our starting OL grade levels for todays game against Duke (ie: FR, Grad Transfer, etc)

It’s a good win. All wins are good wins. But Duke sucks and Tech was a holding call away from being victory formationed 27-24. Gotta be better than that. Maybe the talent level isn’t behind schedule, but the coaching staff is.

So, what you’re saying is that there’s a very, very good chance, barring a late game comeback, we won’t win?
I think UVA is a very winnable game. For all of our offensive line woes, to not have 50% of your starters up front after Williams goes down, I'll take a conference win on the road. I mean we haven't won in Durham in like 8 years. I'll take a close win over 3 straight losses in Wallace Wade.

Yeah. No bad wins when you’re coming off back to back 3 win seasons. Especially a conference road game.

My Thinking too. I thought we were outcoached but the players won anyway and congrats to them,

If you post who the starters were, I’ll get the info for you

My thoughts exactly. That was an ugly game. Duke challenged our manhood and we came out flat. BUT it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to pull together a game winning drive and a stop to win a game like that. It’s a game we would have lost the last 2 years. Progress.

It's a game we lost to start this season.

Thacker, on the other hand, found the 3-3-5 and decided to ride or die with it. It worked against UNC and sure surprised them but it’s apparent our last couple of opponents have figured out how to best attack it (power run game and play action off of it). He’s definitely a smart young coach but he’s not particularly good on adapting with what’s working and not.

It makes more sense if the reason for it is cause of how limited we are on the defensive line, especially defensive tackle. I think part of the idea of it is we rotate our DL through fewer spots to try and keep fresh.

But overall the past two games on defense we've been killed by the things that have always killed us with a weak defensive line: heavy protection with an accurate, intelligent QB and a legit power run game. UNC game aside, we've had a long history of not getting pressure on QBs and getting pushed around by strong running games.
