A Player’s Mom Speaks

Where was this mom when Coach Paul Johnson was the coach?

CPJ was filling twice the seats as CGC even in his down years. This mom's frustration is misguided. She is still bought into the idea that this transformation is right around the corner. Fans are speaking through their attendance they don't believe that to be true. If CGC starts to win, the fans will respond in kind and we will be back up to 40-50k attendance in no time. Attendance is a lagging indicator.

If I recall, that was their QB or a kicker or something right before getting crushed by a defender.

Aaron Murray in the SECCG after throwing a pick, iirc. The pick made him a legal defender and the Bama player was "blocking" him. IIRC2, the refs called it a legal hit even though it looked cheap as hell. Positively knee slappin.

UT at least gets to watch interesting teams when they themselves suck. When we suck we also get to watch the suck of Duke, BC, Virginia and other uninteresting teams. That’s the difference be being in SEC v ACC.
I have it on good authority that when Duke beats us it's because they are really good. When we beat them it's in spite of us being really bad.

For me I don’t mind the drive so much as long as I don’t have to rush on Saturday for a noon kick off, making the 7-hour drives next weekend since we can actually tailgate. I made the move before the 18 season and not counting 20 My games attended count Has been trending down, 6 to 3 to 2. Love the team but that 7 hour I-85 S. ride Friday after work blows, and the TV on the back porch is too nice.
Hotels in Atlanta are open on Fridays too.

I don’t really care about Duke when they are good or bad and that’s the problem. It’s a waste of a game every year.
This is true. The only teams in the ACC that we play who move the needle are: Va tech, Miami, Clempson, FSU and to a lesser extent Unc

Dear Mom,

Thank you for your thoughts. But I have to say I doubt your letter is helpful. The reason is simple. The coaches are for the most part not going anywhere so your letter just acknowledges frustration at the player level and that is a killer of recruiting, etc.

Secondly, there are not that many folks complaining for top level coaching changes. There is frustration by many, but of course there is. We are in the middle of one of the Top Three worst won/loss records in school history. Let frustration happen but I wouldn't consider it a major issue at this point.

Lastly, fans are apathetic and it takes years to get to that point. It will also take years to get out of it. From one who lived through 0-11 and 1-10 seasons, it will turn around. If and when we win some games, Tech will start playing at 3:30 to 7:30. Atlanta has repeatedly proven to support the team at a much higher rate during those times. Your fan base is loaded with professionals who want and have many other things they like to do too. That is a good thing. For me, I travel from Baltimore. it's a major commitment to come and I rarely make the noon games. And neither does the rest of Atlanta. This will change.

Thanks for your thoughts. 99.9% of Tech fans love their players. They know the commitment they make to come here. Ignore the Dwag fans and others here that have no life but to attack.

Having said that, Tech alumni are trained to be analytical and review is normal. Don't let it get you down.

We never went 0-11.

Such an angry, dumb little man. Did that tantrum make you feel better?

I’ve NEVER said anything about firing any coaches, but I have said that it’s time for them to start figuring stuff out.

I’ve had season tickets for decades and haven’t missed a single home game. Outside of Covid, I’ve only missed a handful of ROAD games over those same decades. I show up to the games, I cheer for the team, and I come here and discuss what I saw.

You’re just some angry white trash whose only recourse is to lash out at strangers on the internet. I dunno if it’s funny or sad.

öööö off. That would make me feel better. If you just ööööed off.

This been proven to be false numerous times
That is 100% correct. It's not the "whining" and complaining that's the problem; it's the fans who have quit coming to the games. Sadly, although the decrease in attendance is bad and getting worse now, it was also bad lots of times during the GOL years, the Chan years, and the CPJ years, and even at times in all the years between Dodd and GOL. I know I complain a lot and always have, but I have also attended all but probably 3 home games since 1962. Her son probably did visit other schools that have not been doing well but still filled the stadiums with fans. There were probably a lot of "whiners" and complainers in those fan bases too, and yet they still came to the games. Tech's problem is not the complainers; it's the cheap-a** wussy fans who just quit.

It was a really dirty play. Yet I fully supported and enjoyed it.
No way. QB running cutely down the field looking to make a tackle gets his bell rung. Perfectly clean hit to me. He should have been a little more aware of his surroundings...

“What happens to his top notch education?”

…what would a football coach getting fired have to do with your kid’s education? Get the frustration and wish we could fill up homecoming of all games, but this was a weird thing to include.
Maybe he transfers to Stanford?

I get the frustration, but ultimately college football is a business and each team is putting out a product. Right now, Tech's isn't very good and they're not succeeding in making enough of us believe that's about to change. There may be a handful of schools with large, close-to-home alumni bases that can fill up a stadium regardless of team success, but they are few and far between.

I can accept losing for a while and am relatively patient in terms of W-L.
I haven’t called for replacing the HC but have agreed with questions about coordinators/assistants given how our HC appears to be mostly a recruiter vs someone who knows how to develop talent. A lot of this could ultimately be a question of money…if we’re going to complain, we’ll need to pay.
But what I don’t tolerate is watching a team that just doesn’t look ready to play. Mom needs to understand that games like NIU do a lot of damage. My commitment hinges on their commitment to show up ready and play hard. Sometimes they do, other times they don’t.
Having said all that, I’m giving the whole situation a pass this year and to some extent next.
We’ll know for sure where we stand probably next year, the following at the latest.
Until then, Go Jackets. I’ll be at the BC game next week.

I feel like this is an attitude we have to fight against. The problem with viewing supporting your team (financially, in the stands, etc) as a product is you come to view it the same as going to a particular restaurant (not really something to build passion about). "Products" also get discontinued. "Businesses" close down. Would you approve of Georgia Tech football going out of business if we get bad enough?
