A Player’s Mom Speaks

“What happens to his top notch education?”

…what would a football coach getting fired have to do with your kid’s education? Get the frustration and wish we could fill up homecoming of all games, but this was a weird thing to include.
My educated guess is that her Son knows other P5 Players at other Schools when the HC gets fired, the NEW HC with the blessing of the AD comes in and cleans house, processes, Roster Manages, etc.

I admit that GT doesn't do that, but not everyone knows that.

Her son was highly sought after and at 6-7 270lbs guys like him never or rarely get "processed", but when she wrote that she didn't know how GT treats their players.

Just my guess as to why she wrote some of those things.

That being said, my personal preference is in line with Saban, Meyer and others, they cull the bottom 4-8 Guys from the Roster each year to keep everyone hungry & focused and to constantly bring in better Players, so that injuries & bad luck won't ruin your season.

How many of our football players do you think are getting engineering degrees?
For the last 50 or so years out of 85 on scholarship, my guess is anywhere 5 to 15 are in Engr or Computer Science, some years it skews toward 5 and others toward 15, most years in that 7 to 10 sweet spot.

Am I close to you guess(es)?

You can support your team while not accepting mediocrity. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

Yeah, I know, I’m just needling the dude whose go-to argument is to call you a bitch. :-)

Positively knee slappin.
Indeed.

This thread could use something to cheer us up and unite the fanbase. I think this will help.

Things are ugly now in all aspects, no doubt about it. And it can't be good for recruiting.

I do wonder what schools he turned down though that were still filling every seat after consecutive three win seasons.
What other schools have won 3 games or fewer each of the past 3 years?

CPJ was filling twice the seats as CGC even in his down years. This mom's frustration is misguided. She is still bought into the idea that this transformation is right around the corner. Fans are speaking through their attendance they don't believe that to be true. If CGC starts to win, the fans will respond in kind and we will be back up to 40-50k attendance in no time. Attendance is a lagging indicator.
Yeah her post is well meant but totally misses the point. Fans want to win just like parents do. Everybody wants to win. The difference is that the kids and parents are deeply deeply invested in the potential of the coaching staff that recruited them. They *believe* and it takes even longer for true believers to lose the faith than it does for everyone else watching with a bit more objectivity.

You and many others here are completely missing the point.

The point is not to feel bad for the players or the players' moms. The point is that our poor attendance and the team bashing on social media has a significant impact on recruiting.
The point ought to be that 'social media team bashing' has a marginal impact on recruiting compared to years of losing, and sometimes losing very very ugly.

I'm glad coach sold them on a 3 year turn around. Certainly wont be sooner than that.

I really like Ivey, btw. Hate she feels this way.

and only coaches and players can control the outputs.....fans can only cheer (and buy tix). It's totally in the teams' hands to be better. We can support- which we by and large do as a whole- but can't actually affect their ability / effort / coaching on the field come game day.

Still - GO JACKETS!!!

And calls out all of you whiny ass fans.

I appreciate what you said and how you feel. If I were a parent of a Tech player, I would probably be upset about the progress of Tech football, too.

I think all of us fans need to be more careful to not ever criticize a player's performance on the field. They are coached by highly paid professionals. Their success on the field is a reflection of how they are prepared. My frustration is not with our players. It is with the preparation they receive.

I want our coaches to succeed, but I want our players to succeed more. I like our coaches. I like our players. I appreciate our players' parents. I specifically appreciate you communicating with us fans so openly and honestly.

I hope you will now write Coach Collins. He needs to be more forthright, like you are. For me, it seems like honest down-to-earth communication from him could help our program.

I am sorry our players think they have only themselves. That is not how I feel. Tech has many loyal fans. That's how our players' education and other benefits get paid for. But, it has been a rough time to be a Tech supporter lately. If our results on the field improve, you will see that reflected in attendance. I'd say we're about three winning seasons away from sold out home games. I hope you and your son will hang in there and enjoy the better days to come.

Thank you.

At this point I don’t really give a flying öööö if all of the players transfer out so long as the coaching staff gets fired. It’s not like it can get any worse than it is right now.

I’m with you. Outside of Gibbs, there ain’t a single player I would lose sleep leaving. Imagine he will hit the portal anyway.
