ACC, B1G, and Pac-12 alliance announcement- I fixed it

Couple of points to be made that haven't gotten much attention. If money is about market share then look at the TV markets covered by the Alliance versus the markets covered by the SEC. Second a big part of the SEC's success is the preseason rankings, if the Alliance can control/manipulate the preseason journalism and have the SEC start the season working itself out of a hole it will have a big influence on national perception. Basically the Alliance needs to find a way to balance the SECSPN in reporting, polling (AP & UPI), bowl selection, and Heisman voting.
Excellent point. This is why I think the ACC needs to put pressure on SECSPN or find another suitor. I used to love GameDay but now haven't watched in years. They perpetuate greatness for every school in the SEC and then find out later which one "survived"...I can't watch it anymore.

I miss the days of the Wide World of Sports and running through ALL the games of the NCAA (FAST). I still don't know where Colgate is located but I enjoyed seeing if they won or lost. And I enjoyed hearing about Columbia's losing streak or who was winning the Ivy League too. You want more viewers, offer something up for the masses.

By the way, I think the SEC's response will be to "Save the Big 12" by playing them regularly inseason.

The Big 12 will be a fine regional conference that should still be a half-step above the G5. It will be interesting to see how quickly they move to invite some combination of BYU and Houston/Colorado State/Boise St.

Fine, but their current $30 million per year media deal suddenly craters to AAC levels

So now we have fans advocating for manipulation and anything that doesn’t involve beating the SEC on the field. This is bizzaro world. How about everyone just line up and beat them? We have fans talking about everything but actually beating them. It’s just ridiculous. Sports is the last bastion where score is kept and many frown at that. I actually think that’s the best part of sports. The SEC has won 11 of the last 20 years and are currently on a 2 title winning streak. Let’s just beat them and not whine about everything except the scoreboard.

Listen, I totally agree that preseason polls give those at the top and undue advantage. We’ve all seen a team ranked lose 3 and are still ranked. I get it. But where have these alliance schools been all these decades and why haven’t they addressed it back in the 90’s when the polls became god for the BCS? That’s my point. Some of you are pinning hopes on schools to save us who have never addressed any of the important stuff. The SEC and many others have been cheating for years yet all these schools with the voting numbers never forced the NCAA to put a stop to it. Now, we are suppose to believe them? We are all getting scammed and it’s not by the SEC. The SEC is honest. You may not like them but they are honest and open about putting football first and winning games.

If the ACC plays this correctly (along with Big and Pac sisters) the SEC could end up being regionalized and isolated. Yeah the SEC may dominate a certain type of fan in the southeast, but the ACC teams all end up part of a national conference. If they agree to limit games to themselves, minus perhaps a single rivalry game each year that doesn’t count towards rankings/standings, etc. SEC basically ends up with a handful of powerhouse teams such as Bammer, Awbarn, Tex, OU, UF, A&M with the rest a bunch of wannbee perennial runners ups like the dwags, UT, SCe beating the bottom feeders like Mizzou, Vandy and those Miss schools.

Then you got the coast to coast alliance the ACC is part of, where you section it off and have 4, 16 team regions playing for a national championship each year. You divide each 16 team region into divisions of 8, have #1 play #2 in other half with winners moving to regional championship. Then regional winners playoffs, with those winners squaring off for championship. That’s 4 games max for the 2 in the championship game, it takes a month and lets the losers fill bowl games. They could basically lock the SEC out of anything meaningful except bragging about their own conference.

If the new alliance picks up the 8 remaining members of the Big 12, you have to line up another 16 from the likes of UCF, USF, BYU, Cincy, Boise, the 3 academies, Uconn, Houston, Memphis, etc take your pick from whatever gives a national major market balance where possible.

I would say the combo of NIL and the SEC adding two huge schools/fanbases has something to do with it. Just a thought.

I forgot the part where NIL and adding schools is prohibited by everyone except the SEC. It just sucks that the SEC is allowed to do these things and no one else can. No wonder the ACC hasn’t added Notre Dame. Because we aren’t allowed apparently.

If you can't see the power concentration and how that impacts NIL and what the SEC is doing, I recommend a new optometrist.

Anyways, I'll back off the snide comments now.

There's a point where things come to a head and this is it apparently. The Alliance can take a stand on how they view how college football should be and stating academics is a true motivator is probably at best a half truth. Keeping everything as level as possible is best for some parity in college football.

First, you seem to acknowledge the the preseason polls are biased and give the SEC an advantage starting off each year; but get all wadded up when I suggest the Alliance push to reverse that. The media, particularly ESPN has spent a couple of decades giving the SEC an advantage, reverse that and use the media against them and see how the SEC fairs after a decade or two of bad press.

Second, I am proposing beating them on the field, particularly in bowls. Stop giving the SEC favorable matchups. It wouldn't take much, the Alliance has won about twice as many Bowl Challenge Cups as the SEC.

No one cares about who wins the Weedeater Bowl or the Moes Burrito Bowl. Heck, the players don’t want to play in those and the schools really don’t want to lose money by being in them either. To compare worthless bowl games to games that matter is not being genuine. That’s like saying how awesome the Braves are for winning games up in May and June when the games that truly matter are in October. And the preseason bowls are based off the previous few seasons performances. Yes, it sucks that the SEC gets so many teams highly ranked, but they have earned it. ESPN hasn’t given them anything. The SEC has won the Natty back to back so of course their conference will have a lot teams ranked. Why is UNC ranked so high? What have they done to deserve it except win a bunch of games over a conference with 1 legit team. Should we blame ESPN when we get ranked? Would that be a conspiracy since the own the ACCN?

And snide comments are freakin awesome. This is Stingtalk not the Hive!! And this isnt even close to coming to a head. This is what freedom looks like. Teams should be allowed to move around. It’s natural progression. Instead of freaking out schools should work to make themselves better not take freedoms away from others. Let Texas and OK go. They, and others, will lose way more games than they are use to and the fan base will start to scream. Saban will retire one day and another Ray Perkins could be around the corner. I have no problem with an alliance forming. They have the freedom to do so. But so far it’s a shell without written contracts. It was basically a hissy fit by men in suits using meaningless words to make them sound like they weren’t having a hissy fit.

Too long, didn’t read.

We need to force them to change the name to "little 12" at the very least.
That's one idea. I was thinking something more along the lines of whatever you call the little kid that the lunch-money bully holds upside down till all his lunch money falls out of his pocket. Oh, then takes the moonpie from his locker for good measure.

Yeah, I’m going to call BS on that one. Players want one more game no matter what bowl they’re in or who they’re playing. Especially seniors looking for one more last chance before leaving football behind. And the schools absolutely want the attention that comes with an added bowl game. Think they’re not important? Just look how kissed Tech fans are that we haven’t been to a bowl in a few years.

Big10 has always had an oversized impact on voting. Hope that area's sportswriters spread the love around a bit.

You can't name the conference after me, I won't allow it.

This is very true! Add in that our local paper wouldn't support us if we had 22 5 star players starting with 10,000 fans trying to get into the stadium.
(or in the case of the idiot AJC writers who have withdrawn from voting for the Heisman....)

The one comment above about strapping it on and winning, is correct. The ACC is down partly because Tech hasn't had the leadership who cared. We underrecruited, did nothing to attract fans, etc. Today we seem to want to be a player again and I am excited.

However, the rest of the responses here are also correct. SECSPN and SECSPIN have done wonders for the SEC. There are many aspects to college football that help build programs and that is exactly what the non-SEC schools are trying to accomplish. So good for them. Fight in the streets, fight in who you vote for, don't watch the SEC!

And continue to try to build a majority of schools that still want student athletes, a true college environment.
