Camp is in Session

Fair take. My issue up to now has been the excessive use of superlatives and buzzwords - it just didn't come off as "real" as much as "here is the storyline".

This presser was real. And genuine. What has me excited is that I am pretty sure we are about to open - not a can - but a 55 gallon drum of whoopass on college football this year. Maybe I'm imputing my bias into my interpretation but CGC has the demeanor of a guy who knows he's about to kick somebody's ass that he's been waiting for.

We'll see but what I saw today is very different than what I saw last year and before.
Was going to say the same thing, as I've seen a big change in demeanor vs. the first 2 years. This is a coach who is now looking for some W's.

I am optimistic in that we will have stronger, faster, and smarter athletes than most of the teams we play, the staff has proven more than capable in this regard.

Jury is still out on whether the play calling will match it. I'm hoping for the best from our coordinators

That's a strange take, his press conferences, interviews, and really all public appearances hyping the program have been by far his best attribute so far.
I agree with him somewhat. His press conferences, especially the first year, were all very similar. He was getting his message out there and rarely deviated. I understand why he does / did that, but it made for boring listening after a while. He's opened up some and I appreciate the way he's always pumping the brand, but even now if you're more into the X's and O's, Patenaude and Thacker are a more interesting listen.

I still go back to that opening series against NC St. 75 yards in three plays and a TD. That was no accident.

That’s become the norm with influencers, life coaches, business coaches, etc. The new norm to get branding done is to use buzzwords over and over again. Maybe he finally feels like he has the branding and culture built and is ready to be more detailed. That’s what I’m hoping at least.

Coach knows this is the year to put up a show… and we’ve got the second toughest schedule in the country. We need a couple big wins this year to show we are going in the right direction.
I interpret the heavy lean on the transfer portal as a clear understanding that the staff is placing a reasonably heavy emphasis on results this year. The schedule is not conducive but if we can avoid laying any eggs and maybe pull at least one upset and perhaps give the dwags a scare then we can avoid a confidence crises and keep the momentum going.

I agree, but he's not talking to us that consume every bit of Tech football we can. Also as engineers we tend to see through platitudes, coach speak, and buzzwords more than others, I get why his shtick is disliked by many in the fanbase, but I think it's working.

I think transfers are a means to plug holes, personally. I think Collins knows he needs to start showing consistency and wins or his seat starts to get hot. Another bad season this year means trouble for his future and what he is selling.

I was one that wasn’t a big fan of the constant buzzword use, but the change in culture in the program is undeniable. Most of our guys are totally ripped, and the strength gains are going to pay dividends. The weakest link may turn out to be Patendude. This year will reveal that I think.

This year should tell us if Pateneude is to blame for the offense or if it was really the change in strategy that kept us from producing the last two years. We have the horses now to at least see cohesion.

I dunno if I would say we have the 55 gal size yet, but we are going to have a gallon can of whoopass available, as compared to the fingernail polish size bottle we've been limited to before now.

* The "gallon" is a guess on the state of the program, not the program ceiling. We have talent, and some experienced talent, but they still need to gel as a team... different blocking techniques... communications on defense... may still be a work in process but we are so close we can taste it.

What I have heard from him this year indicates he is more than happy to move past foundational culture basics and delegate that to the team, now the team knows, understands, and lives the culture. I feel he is thrilled at the idea he will soon be talking football instead of talking about learning to walk before we try to run.

But he will still enjoy praising individuals to the sky; that is how he rolls.

Techbert,
still thinks we have zero point zero zero zero idea if what Patenaude is doing is smart or not, and thinks he is just being scapegoated by fans of our team to this point

I’m very thankful for some potential mean ugly DT’s coming in this class. Give him a raise and more money for his coaches.

He seems relaxed, and the comments from everyone are that the team is supplying the discipline and focus, so he's not needing to be hype all the time. This bodes well.

There's a mix of hole plugging (Cochran, Eley, Kirby, Cimaglia, etc.), and guys with multiple years that have talent to build on (White, Pendley, Watson, etc.). We are turning over some other players back to the portal, but it only seems to be the case in positions of depth where guys aren't clearly going to be contributors in the long run.

Not trying to speak for the OP, but I took it to mean that GC's pressers are usually full of cliches and buzzwords and tend to get repetitive. I think this is more the norm among coaches but we were spoiled for years since CPJ tended to be more blunt.
