Catchall Deion Sanders Thread

It is, but I would expect a team taking 50 players from the portal to have a better ranking than teams taking only 10-20 even if they are doing terribly in attracting talent.

These types of rankings are based on overall quantity, so having over three times as many players gives you a basically insurmountable numbers advantage in terms of ranking regardless of quality.

Like Vegas (and the money) can predict who is better.. i believe NIL will be a similar metric... and they added a ton of NIL money

you forgot the lone 5 star that CO got... plus he added 2.7M of NIL vs. USC only adding 1.2M... if he keeps up that pace he'll be earning more NIL than USC which would be astonishing at a ööööhole like CO
True, he's only lost 37 total "stars" in the process when I factor in that 5 star bump. IMO, NIL will only increase if they win otherwise this is the high water line. I picture NIL and excitement being roughly aligned and both fading if the season is rocky.

i used to think the same of the SEC.. but excitement and dumbass shear number of fans brought in money which brought in talent.. the hype was a self fulfilling prophecy that brought wins to the SEC

The NIL numbers on that site are made up by them though, right?

They don't represent how much NIL money the players are making, but rather how much the site thinks they may be able to make based on things like the number of social media followers they have, how much their team is on TV, etc.

I'm not sure that is a great metric for determining how good a player is.

It's also still quantity based...if they added 50 players and every other team only added 10-20, they would still have a better rating even if they were adding worse players than the other teams.

are you arguing that prime wont bring in more advertising and NIL money than CO had previously? that seems like not a good hill to preach from

or are you arguing that money doesn't necessarily equal a better roster? this may be true but it certainly can't hurt right?

huh? he has the #1 transfer portal ranking in a matter for a few months:

what more do you want him to do to show he can recruit?

I hope he fails miserably but if i was a buffs fan id be happy to see him clean house

he added by far the most NIL value to his roster
I may or may not be reading that data correctly. The avg P-rating of the incoming guys is 72 which is pretty much in the bottom third. There is a net loss of 23 roster spots (In minus Out) - so working from a hypothetical limit of 85 is a 27% reduction (which will likely be somewhat mitigated by subsequent transfers in). Back in the old days when the NCAA actuall put teams on probation, this isn't quite an SMU Death Penalty reduction but you can see it from there. CO is adding one five-star and net 3 four-star but losing a net of 18 three-stars. This is a massive talent drain and I question the relative avg p-rating of incoming/outgoing because a net gain of 1 5* and 3 4* does not come anywhere close to offsetting a loss of 18 3*. In other words, how are 18 3* and 1 4* (outgoing) get a p-rating of 63 but 1 5*, 4 4* and 25 3* get a p-rating of 72? I don't see a 10 point gain in p-rating from that.

I can't really do much with the Adjusted NIL because I don't know how much the 54 outgoing guys were getting so can only look at the new total and the roster count which is 62/3.3M = $53k/player. Assuming all the other teams in the chart have full 85-man rosters, this translates into $4.5M total. This total does not compare favorably with the "big boys" and is more in the group of Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky. Except that Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky have full two-deep rosters.

I don't want to beat this completely to death but I don't see a single metric I can point to that suggests CO is doing anything other than replacing a miserable program with an average one - if that. And year one was supposed to be angels and trumpets heralding the arrival of the football messiah. More like a gang of wanna be hip-hop dudes at the opening of the new Staples store.

Not sure what I'm missing here but pretty sure its not "Its Happening!"

I'm saying that On3 saying that Colorado added $2.6 million in NIL value does not mean that Colorado gained $2.6 million in NIL money. It means that On3 is guessing the players will be able to sign NIL deals worth that much in the future. I.e. it's completely made up.

I do think that Prime will bring in more money, and I do think that more money helps. But I don't think that Colorado sitting atop the On3 rankings proves that Deion is a great recruiter when they are on top of the rankings because they took the most players from the portal, not because they got the best players from the portal on average.

#1 because of the DB and his son. The DB from JSU is #1, his son is top 20. I doubt both, despite the DB being hailed as generational

I completely missed that in my breakdown above. So taking that into consideration, Prime has replaced 43 3* guys with 25 3* guys. B F D.

but they did get the best players from the portal.. only USC arguably better... i'd rather take a 5 star and 5 4-stars than 9-4stars

even if they are a wash they are still improving their roster by way more than anyone else except arguably USC

This looks to me to be the same thing I used to complain about with GT's class ranking. The ranking is not based on average "star" rating - its based on total star rating. So a class of 3 5* guys will be rated lower than a class of 6 3* guys.

Geoff Collins has turned GT recruiting around overnight.

Ahhhh, the memories.
Interesting prediction that Deion will flop as bad as CGC... i hope youre right but i just don't see it

for example he's already brought in way more money than CGC could dream of so that alone shows me he's already done more than CGC ever did

What is the definition of "way more money"? Yes, there was an irrational exuberance bump, but they aren't ever gonna be on a level with UGAg, USC, Michigan, Ohio State. They might be able to have a few years of Baylor type success, but I just don't see Deion wanting to put that kind of work in.
