Chadwell and his spread option

Unless it's somebody currently unemployed, they won't be hired until end of Nov/early Dec.
They won't start work until then, but we will ink the deal way before that almost certainly.

Your point is like saying companies don't hire GT students until after they graduate.

Possible, and frankly I hope this is the case because that means it wasn't just a knee-jerk reaction to all the latest bitching about Collins, and has actually been thought about.

I think we’ll get an AD announcement sooner rather than later.

Any trepidation is due to his lack of P5 experience. I'm sure he's a step up from Collins (so are you, for that matter) but can he go from small'ish Coastal to ACC P5 football and the requirements to win at a place like GT? How does he recruit? Coastal has fewer recruiting hurdles than we do.

We just went thru a guy with no real P5 experience before so not sure if we want to go down that road of possibilities again. I'm sure he's a step up but is he the guy to take us to having the same chance against Clemson that Wake, NC State, and PITT already have? If those 3 programs can be where they are today, I see no reason why we can't. No gimmicks at any of 'em. Just good coaching and execution.

There is no comparing GT recruiting and Coastal recruiting. They aren’t competing for the same caliber athletes that we are.

And that is the big worry, can he oversee a recruiting program that can identify and sign top athletes? Can he oversee a national recruiting strategy.

On the coaching side, will his offense hold up to the kind of scrutiny it will receive once he is a P5 coach? I’m not talking about a one off game against a P5 opponent who spends part of the week preparing for the game after CC. CPJ offense held up pretty well, but it definitely wasn’t as effective as his first couple of years.

I agree. GS hired Helton a few weeks after firing the HC. Helton just didn't start until the end of the season. He did however, spend time evaluating the roster and the staff in order to determine who to get from transfer portal and hires to make. Hopefully GT will do something similar because a head start would be beneficial after that mess. Not sure how feasible that is without an AD, but hopefully it can still happen.

How would Coastal Carolina look right now in our division? I'm guessing very good and probably would have been the past several years.
Perhaps, but someone just did bring up a good point.

None of Coastal's opponents now are hiring consultants to figure out how to best defend against this offense. Georgia will have that. Some others will have that. But not all of them. And it will very much hurt UGA if they have to go back to wasting their off week before our game and if they have to waste preseason practice time on our offense.

I believe Coastal executes their option at a faster clip than even GS did. GS's version utilized cut blocks as did GT, but Coastal uses a few different types, none of which are cut blocks. They basically manhandled BYU's line last year. During an interview last year Chadwell mentioned that his offense does not require finding the best players in order to have the best execution. That certainly doesn't mean he doesn't try to find the best players - McCall is a good example. Lance Leipold's option is holding up quite well, coming up from G5. The football landscape is ripe for offensive innovation like that of Chadwell and Leipold, or even Brennan Marion. If GT has a chance to go that route, I certainly hope they choose wisely.

Helton was fired from USC before he was hired by GS and so was not currently employed.

GT students don't have contracts with the school to work there. Currently employed coaches do. I would be absolutely shocked if a schools head coach can sign a contract with a different school and not be in breach of contract with the current one.

Why would a coach that has a better offer worry about being in breach of the current contract? How this works is you negotiate with the current employer: Coach: "I have a new offer for a lot more money"
School: "That sucks, is there anything we can do to convince you to stay? We can't match that salary."
Coach: "I love these kids and it is a hard decision. I would like to finish out the year with them."
School: "That would really help us out too"
Coach: "Great. It is a win-win"

Rarely does a team go "Yeah we got a game saturday and the one after and the one after but we are going to pack up your office and walk you out..."

Also, it is very common for consultants to have the next contract finalized and signed before the current contract is over. A person can sign the next contract before they finish the current one.

I feel like Chadwell is our best hope of finding another PJ-esque coach who can win with his scheme, recruit for his system (offensive players that other P5 schools might not necessarily be recruiting but will ball out in his system) and he would just have enough of the perceived “stink” of the option on him to keep bigger schools from poaching him away.

Well this time we are also hopefully not going to fund the program worse than Duke like we did when Paul was here. That was as big of a reason we didn't recruit well as anything else.

You fund a winner and recruits will show up.

This is exactly what we did to Collins and T-Stan.

Yea, well this is true no matter what offense we run. Teams with great coaching support staffs are always going to be picking apart opposing offenses. It is going to always be an advantage having an offense that is harder to defend against, but when opposing teams figure it out that just means we will have to execute well and rely on good coaching and talent Iike everyone else.

I'm all for Deion but would not be disappointed with Chadwell. I do think it could be (unfairly) seen as going back to the triple option which would turn off a large part of the fan base at a time they need to do everything they can to get the fans back.

If you're not in the top 15 in recruiting, it doesn't really matter.

There is a huge discrepancy outside of the top 15 with respect to on field results.

Outside the top 15 classes, it boils down to talent evaluation and player development. This is key for anyone hired at Tech to consistently win. I don't care if you bring Saban here, this will always be the case unless monumental changes are made within the AA.
