CPJ and The Ceiling

I don't think Leaky Roof is the best we can do but how can a realist be convinced that CPJ knows how to hire a good DC? I'm all rainbows-and-unicorns but it's naive to think we can do much better than 2014. CPJ teams always manage to lose a few that we should win, as well as win one we should've lost. That's nice but it's not CFP material. It's ACC-CG appearance material.
This isn't about what we think will happen. I agree that his track record of DCs is concerning. For better or worse, Woody is probably his last DC at GT, and I think our team will go as far as he takes us.

CPJ will be 61 when this season starts. Whether Nate Woody works or not, CPJ is likely gone by the time we figure it out.

I do suspect his last extension is intended to take him to retirement. If Woody is a home run, he will make it to the end of it.

Actually, this thread is pretty much all about what we think will happen, compared to what has already happened. I think we've hit our ceiling already; you and others don't.

I hope you are right!

There is no reason to think we can’t win our division, even sweeping. If we have an easy non-conference besides UGA we can sweep them. So, if we only lose to Clemson or the Dawgs, but not both, we could play for an ACC title with one loss. That sets up a three game playoff. Win the first at the ACC championship and you play in the semis. Win again and you play for a championship. So, that is our ceiling. Likely? No. A reasonable possibility? Yes.

The problem with years 8&10 under CPJ is the lowering of the floor. It was nice to avoid losing seasons for almost two decades. Now we have had two in three years.

And losing to Duke
And almost losing to ööööing Southern

He got lucky as öööö that year

As I did with your mom last night.

Bad luck has also stopped UGA from possibly having three NC's in the past 16 years.

Clearly, the ceiling is losing to Alabama on the final play of the championship game.

Hopefully not the ceiling, but half this board would spunk all over their keyboards if it did happen. There isn't one person on this board that wouldn't have swapped where we were last year for that position.

I think it possible to get into the playoffs under CPJ. Those teams traditionally have strong defenses, and I would say history shows that a team with a long time to prepare for the spread option has a greater chance to defeat it. So I think the playoffs are possible, but no championship.

History receives far more credit for predicting the future than it deserves.

Win the division, win the ACCCG, have no more than one loss. Sure, no sweat. :lol2: We've done that so frequently.
