Being a Georgia Tech fan is SOOOO tiresome. Whining and bitching, bitching and whining. Over analyzing again and again and again. All of it coming from people who don't know if a football is blown up or stuffed.

Coach Johnson has a track record, and it's a öööö good one. He can only call the plays that will work if executed. he can't go out and execute them. He didn't forget how to coach in the off-season, no more than you guys forgot how to masturbate while watching Bill Nye or seeing a picture of Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

No but it's his responsibility that the coaches under him make sure that they execute. It's not a good excuse to say, "well he's brilliant, the players just suck" He's the head coach. He still has a decent quarterback and 3 out of 4 OL from last year and most of the defense. He doesn't have too much excuse for this performance for the blocking of his seniors and the poor defensive performance in the second half.

Mind you, we also gave him the credit and the paycheck when he went 11-3 with victories over uga and orange bowl opponent, not the players. He's going to have to take the blame, stfu and get öööö fixed. Because the Tech shaft is bigger than any and all Paul Johnsons.

I don't disagree with most of this, but don't be that guy that tries to start a schism between alumni GT fans and sidewalk GT fans.
I'll agree I'm a sidewalk fan. I became a GT fan when Johnson was hired, and may stop being one when he's gone, but I've been following his career since 87, and he's never had so much negativity within his own fanbase as he's at at Georgia Tech. Most people appreciate a coach who can win with inferior talent.

There are several parts to being a college head football coach. I do believe he calls plays that should work, but the execution also falls to him. When I see linemen flopping on the ground, it does have something to do with coaching, even if it is just a refusal to change some coaches. You would probably then point to inexperience as being a problem. That is with recruiting and balancing classes. Sure we had some injuries, but we lost a lot due to graduation and have a real lack of experienced a and b backs.

The thing that bothers me most is how much the o-line seems to have regressed. That should be a strong point that allows the new players to develop slowly, but it isn't.

That's probably where people are running into some issues this season.

Go be a tulane fan. They accept people into their fold who are ok with mediocrity.

 Gonna have to give you a  on this one!

If you don't get the TD on the 1 yard line, your defense should be able to stop them from scoring 75%+ of the time afterwards.

Defense was pathetic Saturday. Roof cannot handle a running quarterback.

I totally get that, but I think the difference is that he was consistently meeting and in most cases exceeding the fan base's expectations in his previous gigs. While he has done that here at times (during which you'll notice nary a peep from the boo birds), it hasn't been as consistent.

And for the record, I like CPJ, think he's been great for Tech, and wish for his continued success. I don't like the negative nancies that only show up when we lose. I'm just explaining why you're seeing it more here than at Georgia Southern.

I like CPJ too but I'm not going to stop someone from criticizing him. He deserves it. We'll give him the credit when he fixes it.

he's either been winning national championships (ga so) or coached somewhere they don't expect to win (navy.)

Georgia Tech has 4 national titles in the highest division of football. We are not Navy and we have won without Paul Johnson.

I don't take much issue with those that criticize/praise. It's those that only come out of the woodwork when the results support their unchanging opinion that really bug me.

Edit: and I will admit, I skew glass half full, so i probably overlook more easily it when it's the positive bandwagon type.

1990 was a million years ago in respect to CFB.

What position does he play?

How many tackles did our DL have? How about Gotsis?

You guys are ridiculous sometimes. Everything was fine until Gotsis went out. That changed everything and I called it last week when the depth chart came out. We have zero depth at DT. ZERO.

We had Marcordes playing DT. He isn't even big enough to be a proper LB and we have him going against guys that outweigh him by probably 60 lbs each. What the öööö do you expect?

It's par for the course. It's not something that's a specialty of our fanbase.

Honestly it surprises me that Paul Johnson gets butthurt about negative feedback. If he's as tough as we make him to be, he should just tune it out rather than make a snide comment about something that pissed him off everytime he's in front of a mike.

To your first point, that was kind of my point. The reason it seems like GT is a harsher fanbase than GA Southern is because he hasn't been as successful here (also probably to some extent the proliferation of social media, but that's getting off topic). If he had the same kind of up and down record at Southern he had at Tech, I think the fan base reactions would be pretty similar.

I'm leaving Navy out of this because their whole situation is kind of a special case.

Ummm... You do realize we got a stop after the goal line stand, right?

Ask PJ about criticism when he was at Southern. He'll tell you he got his share of it there for not going undefeated every season. And there was backlash when he announced he was leaving, some of it pretty scary.

Honestly, I have no problem with how he handled the calls and questions last night. I wasn't necessarily thrilled with all the play calls or how the end of each half was handled, but I wasn't put out by his answers and explanations last night.

Exactly. It was a 3 and out. After which we promptly fumbled the ball back to them on the first play.

Clearly on the defense.
