Defense is an embarrassment

And yet, offensively, we did well in the portal. Defensively? We lose players. That DT from Colorado State last night was a damn madman, despite being able to hardly walk on or off the field. He just willed himself to make plays after the snap.
We don’t have a warrior like that on this defense. At least no one has shown that will yet.

Somewhat agree but when I see teams that have fallen way behind us in recruiting rankings play to a much higher level defensively, I have to wonder. Wouldn't you agree that over the last decade we have probably placed anywhere between 45-60 in recruiting rankings and yet our defense usually ranks somewhere below the 90th rank defenses in total defenses. Given, I haven't gone in and done a deep dive analysis so I'm just pulling this out of my a$$ but that's what I seem to recall.
The issue with the recruiting rankings and GT are the high 3*-4* players the former coach signed were at QB, RB, WR on offense. On D it was 1-2 LB’s and pretty much all secondary. OL & DL recruiting from a star level didn’t change much. In fact, some of the better DL’s GT signed were sort of lower rated players like Domineck, Stone, etc. Ivey was the only 4* DL signed out of HS.

The talent level on defense isn’t much different for the entire ACC after Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, Pitt. From 6 through 14 It’s all about the same 3* talent on D. Pitt surprisingly has signed a lot of 4* DL’s over the last few classes. Kind of Pat N’s calling card. Produce quality DL’s.

We have GOT to hit the portal hard this season for DT's and LB's. We just don't have the depth to compete. I don't recall there ever being a time when our LB's have been this quiet during a game. I used to love watching Phillip Wheeler pursue a play like a leopard
You better pony up then. Thetechway.com

Paul did have a tendency to try to load the O side of the ball and struggled to sign the big uglies on the D side of the ball, but I can still see with my eyes we are underperforming on D and I believe we can get better effort and performance from our defense. As a fan I expect better.

Without question. The benefit the current staff has vs CPJ is a dying NCAA and the Portal. CBK needs to really save up spots for 3-4 DL’s from the Portal. Only way to fix the problem.

my friend saw Dan Mullen arriving to ATL airport this am .. do with that info what you will.

Flying back from his weekly job at ESPN. He lives in Georgia now I believe. Per what he’s said on XM Radio he has absolutely no interest in going back to coaching. He enjoys doing studio work and playing golf 4+X a week.

A job at ESPN nowadays is tenuous
