Expansion Rumors…

Didn’t you learn as a child that words don’t harm you? Or have you exited childhood yet?
Ok, to address your point, I think wanting to not play Clemson and Uga is one of the biggest taking my ball and going home attitudes. It will surely mean that Tech will never play meaningful football ever again and that unless Tech goes undefeated they will not be ranked, and they will also not fill out the stadium.
You will be pursuing mediocrity all the time and pretend you are happy with it.

Arguing with these guys is fruitless. There are several on here that live by the idea that some Ivy League looking conference of academic and wannabes academic schools will be uniquely appealing to hordes of fans. They maintain the money gap between that and the SEC/BIG wouldn’t be significant. Then when that idea is debunked, they fall back on “I don’t want to play in a world where money tops everything”.

Sure they would be different, but they’re that way now. No change. No, we wouldn’t be like the Sunbelt. We’d be like the ACC. Business as usual, except we’re rid of the prima donnas.

if you’re not trying to keep up with the Jones’s then you don’t need the Jones’s money.

You’d have Tech playing everyone on their schedule next year except Clem and UGAg. It would be glorious to be done with that crowd.

I’m amazed that Tech folks want Tech football to be like those programs. We’ve never been that, even when we have been at/near the top.
FSU, Clemson, and sometimes Miami and VT are really the only conference games that excite me. The rest of the conference sucks and I have zero interest.

If the SEC and B1G eventually form their own tier and we're left out, we'd be better off Independent than in the second tier. Change my mind.

How are you going to recoup the $35M-45M you're giving up to be in a conference? We're not getting a Notre Dame type deal from any broadcaster.

If it did happen though, the 'second tier' would need to show some resolve and not act like a 'second tier. Cut off the $EC/B1G from the bowls with new alignments and Bowl Championship series. Stop playing out of conference games against them. Let them play each other and pretend to crown whatever 'champion' they want. Their Olympic sports would suffer badly and become a greater drain on their budgets. More than half of the teams in their conferences in major sports would be taking money with no chance of postseason play. How long would the broadcasters tolerate that?

I don’t keep up with this thread regularly. I also don’t know if this is true/old news/debunked, but I was told the Arizona schools, Utah and Colorado are joining the Big 12.

Fake News. Big 12 rumored to be pursuing them. FAAAAAR cry from them actually joining!

You need to ask yourself you leaked this rumor and why.

I figured someone would step up and tell me the deal instead of having to wade through multiple pages to see if it had already been posted. I’ve been unable to keep up with the thread lately so thanks for the Cliff notes!

This is pretty much what I thought as well last summer when the rumors were buzzing, but I wouldn't be shocked if there is some truth to them now. The TV numbers are known now, and while I'm sure every schools 1st preference was to keep the conference intact, getting paid significantly less than every other P5 conference is untenable. Everyone knows Ore and UW for sure want to bolt to the B1G, their probing for invites was very public. So are the 4 corner schools going to sit quietly with a XII invite getting paid significantly less hoping the B1G doesn't yank Ore and UW?

So if those programs do bolt and the PAC loses 6 schools, can it survive that? I guess it survives as long as Ore and UW stay committed to the conference, however long that is. I guess a lot of this hinges on what involvement the ACC has in partnering with the PAC, and whether that generates any serious amount of revenue or not.

Those programs are not bolting. So the rest is moot.

So now we have Clemson, Florida State and UNC all publicly stating they want a bigger share of the pie

This isn’t going to end well for us or the ACC.

I hope GT publicly requests more money, followed by 4 or 5 other ACC Teams, like UVA, Miami, VT, NC State and Duke. Wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to read between the lines that those schools have landing spots and ESPN can create a fair market price contract for the ACC or those teams dissolve the ACC.

Regional Sports Networks are in trouble. Many games for Tech had limited, hard to find coverage last year. Don't know how it will be impacted going forward with these developments. Watch the video linked below for more info.

The sounds of bubbles popping.
Meanwhile Clemson, FSU and UNC are setting fires to bridges.
