Expansion

I think it’s more about what you fear: developing a relationship and team entity with ND. ND can help us get into the Big Ten which is the best landing spot for us. I’m surprised UNC sides with the SEC wannabes but the battle lines are clear now.

UVA, Pitt, VPI, ND and us work out a deal to BIG Ten. Others work out a deal to SEC. Maybe swap Louisville for VPI if we want
ND is only doing what is best for ND. They don’t give two öööös about GT. We aren’t voting with them because there is some bond.

I really like this articles conclusions on how teams may rue the day they leave their existing conferences. Becoming just an also ran, travel, loss of rivalries are a real issue. Nebraska and Texas A&M

I also think the continued attack on the ACC TV contract is a bit unwarranted. Should there be as big of a gap between ACC money and BiGI/SEC money? No but there should be some. Bigger schools and bigger fan bases. But with all that said, the BIG12 contract is not better than the ACC contract. THe ACC arguably has the 3rd best conference TV contract which is probably where it should be.

I really would like to see us add the 3 teams. The ACC does not need to be the SEC. They need to be as good as the BIG12 and the 3rd best conference if possible. Adding the 3 schools would give the conference more stability and guard against stupid defections. I'm not sure the defections will ever happen, but we need some protection to the conference if they do. Hopefully NC State and North Carolina will see the light. I think they are voting together.
No, picking up those schools does nothing. The ACC cannot do anything to the Big or Sec. It can try to take the best fits from the big 12. That’s the move to make.

I getting tired of all the FSU fan whining like this is the 1990's and they are the top of the football world. They managed to get Winston out of jail and eligible long enough to win a championship. That is their only success, as of late.

As for UNC, they have never accomplished a damn thing in CFB and certainly won't by changing to the Big10 or SEC. NC State is a ööööing joke. Clemson has been more like NC State than they would care to admit to. They can than Trevor Lawrence for elevating them to the level they have been, but they will fall soon enough back to reality.

The best move would be to stick together. Convince ND to join. Take Stanford and Cal.

After that, aggressively pursue a better contract. Become a ööööing shark, for damn once. If we can get ND and a better contract, pursue Penn State. Go after USC and UCLA. I'm not sure the Big10 even has a GOR or exit fee. The SEC doesn't. I know it is a long shot, but be aggressive.
This kind of thinking is why Tech will end up in the Big12 or worse. It's why Stanford and Call are in the position they are.

NOTRE DAME ISN'T COMING! They are not joining the ACC. They probably will not be joining any conference for many more years if EVER. They have no reason to and there will be no reason to any time soon. Notre Dame is playing everyone for fools having earned a vote in a conference they don't have to contribute to. The ACC is a bunch of ööööing cucks.

Stanford and Cal are terrible football programs on the other side of the damn country. They don't have fans, they don't have interest in football, they don't do anything to make the conference more attractive short or long term. They are the equivalent of adding two Vanderbilts to a sinking conference.

FSU aspires for something more in football than an empty stadium with bottom tier tv coverage and bottom tier payouts from a sinking conference. They aren't sinking on this ship without a fight. I don't blame them. I don't like them, but I don't blame them. And I don't blame Clemson, UNC or NCST for wanting to better their programs.

You have to wake up and smell reality. As a football program in 2023 you are either climbing the ladder or being pulled off it by those that are climbing over you and stomp you in the face as they go up. Tech's reported position on voting to admit Stanford and Cal is contrary to the what the President of the school has been saying about being committed to winning. Admitting Stanford and Cal would sink the conference in football to the point it would never recover. The ACC is effectively surrendering by even considering Cal and Stanford. It is the most glaring sign of lack of leadership and vision there can be.

If that is what Tech aspires to as a football program, then we should all stop pretending and go ahead accept our fate to be left out of serious college football and be relegated to whatever league of teams we fall to.

It's time to choose.

Google says their TV contract ends in 2025. If that’s true, next year we could see another realignment (as in who else does the B1G take to get to an even number of teams)

So time to choose what? So you are telling me it is just a choice Tech needs to make. Choose the B1G, SEC or ride and die in the ACC. Well duh, the choice should be simple then. Why hasn't the president and AD chosen between the B1G and SEC? Tough choice I guess.

NOTRE DAME HAS NO REASON TO JOIN A CONFERENCE IN FOOTBALL. NONE. It ain't happening.

Sometimes you make a bad move which Disney did building (Star Wars Hotel Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser )

It failed bad $5000 for two nights didn't cut it.

Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will close its doors forever on September 1. The Resort had only been in operation for barely a year and a half. The closing of this expensive Resort will reportedly cost Disney nearly half a billion dollars, according to the earnings call that took place yesterday between The Walt Disney Company and its shareholders.
Berkshire Hathaway does not hold Disney Stock.

Time to choose to fight to make the conference worth being in for football or to destroy it by adding programs with no interest in football. It appears the conference has chosen to pursue football irrelevance and Georgia Tech has made it's choice to sing in the chorus as it sinks.

There is no other explanation for the ACC seriously considering Stanford and Cal and Georgia Tech voting in favor of that.

Absolutely pitiful.

Stanford won between 8 and 12 games every year from 2010 to 2018. They have 14 conference titles. I am not saying the ACC absolutely has to have them, but you are really exaggerating

Exactly. I am not sure why people seem to think there is some kind of magic bullet here for GT, or for that matter, the ACC.

ND is only doing what is best for ND. They don’t give two öööös about GT. We aren’t voting with them because there is some bond.
I did not say they were it’s as if you people have no ability to think strategically. So it’s really not worth talking about anything any more.

Then why hasn't the B1G scooped them up? Or the BIG 12? They have very little impact for television. They don't have a large following and they aren't in a big college football market. Stanford and Cal are football poison.

They might be passable for regional conference members on the west coast, but adding them to the ACC (ATLANTIC COAST) is the literal stupidest thing the conference can consider.

Regionality matters.

Thinking strategically would mean having an option where ND is actually going to help you. They are going to hang on independent until the final hour and then jump with the big 10. They won’t be in a position to demand anything and don’t give a öööö about GT. I believe you are confusing your strategy with naivete.

I agree. Which is why you want to be in their good graces. Not a presumed enemy. Why make problems with them when you know the vote is going to fail for Cal and Stanford to join the ACC? Why align with people who are angling to go to a conference you have little to no chance of joining in the SEC? Notice how we have no known opinion of the VA schools?

No, you pivot. GT announces to the world “football first”. Keep the academics and football separate but throw some money to build your brand and business. The the SEC will come calling. Once GT realizes they can have a world class institution in the classrooms and one of the best college football teams in the country everything else will work out. Imagine GT research dollars and Bama football dollars. That is what could be in 20 or 25 years if GT tried and the sport holds up.

Not that Bama is the best for an education but there are people from all over the country applying there and pushing out Alabama residents. Why are they doing that? Because of football success. It helps your school and could be a huge complement to the Institute

The SEC will only take GT when it hears the Big Ten is about to take them. And even then it’s a stretch.

B1G ACC Targets - Miami, UNC, UVA and GT. Why? Academics (Don't laugh. School presidents have a lot to say and they care about academics.), basketball and TV markets. If you notice the B1G has a lot of AAU schools. USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington are all AAU schools. Miami, UNC and UVA are all AAU schools. Tech works academically AND TV market (The only reason Ga State is a D1A).

FSU and Clemson are not AAU schools (Hello SEC if Florida and USC-E don't block it). Nobody cares about Duke, Wake, NC State, VAPI&SU, BC, Syracuse and Louisville. The TV audience for Duke/Wake/NC State would be covered by UNC. Syracuse why? They already have Rutgers. BC maybe for the TV market. Louisville VAPI&SU? Nobody cares about Louisville and VAPI&SU.

They will take whatever makes them money. The reason they don’t want GT is because the school has little to no commitment to athletics. If GT (and this is an example, only a scenario) was on the front page of ESPN headlined as the Institute will take over the GTAA and invest as much as it takes to be successful on the football field then ears will perk up.
