Expansion

They will take whatever makes them money. The reason they don’t want GT is because the school has little to no commitment to athletics. If GT (and this is an example, only a scenario) was on the front page of ESPN headlined as the Institute will take over the GTAA and invest as much as it takes to be successful on the football field then ears will perk up.
Either way, the school is first class. It needs to be first class in everything it does or cancel sports. I am a life long sidewalk fan. I bought 10 seats to the kickoff game and will be bringing 8 people who enjoy college football but have never been to a college football game. I bought 8 gold GT shirts for them. GT needs to do something to keep my interest and draw those 8 people in as fans.

I’ve been screaming this for years but no one thinks like you or I. Imagine what would happen if our engineering ranks dropped into the 70’s like our athletics have dropped. You would see all night meetings taking place, heads would roll, and the pocket book would be unleashed to “buy” professors to get our programs back. But, in sports when I say that it’s met with a yawn or an excuse that the school can’t do it due to rules, blah, blah, blah. Then change the rules like every other major school does to help your programs - all your programs.

If you “google” news articles searching “Georgia Tech” the results are 98% about athletics which have been below average. Hence, our reputation in this state is not what we deserve and it’s a darn shame that we do this to ourselves.

The ACC has won 3 of the last 10 National Championships, had a team in the BCS playoffs almost every year, 2 teams when ND and Clemson were in.
Come on, Beeski. That’s Clemson and no other for the CFP/NC. There are 13 others. Even ND doesn’t count. FSU was there the first year in 2014 and got obliterated.

B1G expansion = AAU schools with good markets. It’s our natural fit. Going back to the SEC is never gonna happen.
If GT sports were interesting it could. I strongly feel compelling matchups will be the new barometer for tv dollars. One thing the SEC should think about is staying southeast. It can own all the states people are flocking to instead of the west and north where people are leaving continuously. It’s older but GT has a history with many SEC teams. You don’t have to create a story here. You just have to remind everyone.

The SEC’s model is flagship programs from each state that can be lumped into a southeast category. They’ll look at expansion into North Carolina and Virginia but GT brings them nothing except bad feelings. The GT SEC connection died 3 generations ago. We can grovel to them but nothing is bringing us back into the SEC.

I really truly hope that both UNC and UVA get their fondest wishes and get accepted into the SEC someday, and then proceed to get crushed for eternity in the new redneck fb Hell that they so willingly jumped into.

I prefer they stay and continue to get crushed in the ACC. CavMan has never won an outright ACC title - they have two co-championships in 1989 and 1995, which is 28 years ago. And, the mighty Tarheels? Their last title was in 1980, 43 years ago. Of course, that is one year better than their neighbors in Raleigh, the Wolfpack, who last won in 1979. And, State and UNC dared to say this summer they deserved more of the football money. Doormats.

You are correct but times are changing. It's only my opinion but bringing GT doesn't exclude them from getting into Virginia and North Carolina. If GT could get better you will make more money on GT vs Georgie. instead of Georgie vs Virginia. Does Virginia even care about football anymore? North Carolina is trying and has the ability but lol, have been trying and have the ability for many years.

Cav Man’s a freaking joke. They’ll do good in basketball from time to time, but any sport requiring more than 7-8 bodies forget it.

UNC has never done anything except be an occasional nuisance. Ncst is worse, they’re like UNC with very small wet dreams.

Our conference consists of Clemson who may or may not be regressing to the mean, Fsu who’s about a half way to being irrelevant for an entire generation of kids, da U that wakes up every preseason with idiotic dreams of being relevant then chokes themselves on their gold chains, ND’s the chick that won’t commit because she thinks it’s still 1990 and she’s the öööö, and GT that wants to buy a fleet of Bentleys with Fiat (now Hunday) money.

Hell yea

As for UNC, they have never accomplished a damn thing in CFB and certainly won't by changing to the Big10 or SEC. NC State is a ööööing joke. Clemson has been more like NC State than they would care to admit to. They can than Trevor Lawrence for elevating them to the level they have been, but they will fall soon enough back to reality.
Clemson has been more like NCSU than they care to admit? Clemson has won no less than 10 games since 2010. Your failed logic continues by ignoring how good Clemson was before Lawrence with Watson at the helm, etc. The notion Clemson “will fall soon enough back to reality” has no substance. That team is loaded despite Dabo’s reluctance to use the Portal.

The TV folks supposedly want “good inventory.” The first way to supply “good inventory” is to be good. That way the conferences with good teams want you. Or at least that’s the way it should play out if “good inventory” is truly the priority.
But it’s not. The B1G and SECheat are both more than half mediocre to bad programs.
This is all about connecting connecting big TV markets to their networks. It’s a simple as that. TV is killing college football.

This is the best hope Tech has in my opinion. I think Tech would be a great fit for B1G as the Atlanta market in the deep south of college football is a perfect base to expand B1G influence. Tech fits in pretty much all the right categories. The B1G doesn't much excite me, not nearly as much as the SEC would, but it beats the hell out of the direction the ACC is going in.

Does the B1G see it that way? I have no idea. I feel like too many ACC teams right now are counting on the B1G to bail them out if the ACC craters as it appears to be headed. Tech could easily be on the outside looking in and hoping for a Big12 offer.

The only reason, IMHO, that the SEC would consider Tech is to 1) upgrade their academic rep which they really don't care about 2) keep the B1G out of their backyard 3) add another tradition rich regional opponent that qualifies as big boy football.

I'm not sure any of those reasons would get Tech serious consideration for the SEC.

This kind of thinking is why Tech will end up in the Big12 or worse. It's why Stanford and Call are in the position they are.

NOTRE DAME ISN'T COMING! They are not joining the ACC. They probably will not be joining any conference for many more years if EVER. They have no reason to and there will be no reason to any time soon. Notre Dame is playing everyone for fools having earned a vote in a conference they don't have to contribute to. The ACC is a bunch of ööööing cucks.

Stanford and Cal are terrible football programs on the other side of the damn country. They don't have fans, they don't have interest in football, they don't do anything to make the conference more attractive short or long term. They are the equivalent of adding two Vanderbilts to a sinking conference.

FSU aspires for something more in football than an empty stadium with bottom tier tv coverage and bottom tier payouts from a sinking conference. They aren't sinking on this ship without a fight. I don't blame them. I don't like them, but I don't blame them. And I don't blame Clemson, UNC or NCST for wanting to better their programs.

You have to wake up and smell reality. As a football program in 2023 you are either climbing the ladder or being pulled off it by those that are climbing over you and stomp you in the face as they go up. Tech's reported position on voting to admit Stanford and Cal is contrary to the what the President of the school has been saying about being committed to winning. Admitting Stanford and Cal would sink the conference in football to the point it would never recover. The ACC is effectively surrendering by even considering Cal and Stanford. It is the most glaring sign of lack of leadership and vision there can be.

If that is what Tech aspires to as a football program, then we should all stop pretending and go ahead accept our fate to be left out of serious college football and be relegated to whatever league of teams we fall to.

It's time to choose.
I understand you have a wet dream of probably getting in a league with ECU, Appalachian State, UCF and other öööö teams, but the rest of us prefer big boy football.

Stanford won between 8 and 12 games every year from 2010 to 2018. They have 14 conference titles. I am not saying the ACC absolutely has to have them, but you are really exaggerating
They are regularly winning the overall sports trophy and are a Top Ten school. It’s who we should be associating ourselves with.

Jesus ööööing Christ give it a rest already.
