Expectations for next year

You guys are the ones calling out all of the players for being untalented. Not me. You are the ones saying we have FCS talent. So either name the players you think are FCS talent or gtfo with that criticism.

Also not to be overlooked, CPJ left behind maybe the best specialist group we’ve ever had at Tech in Wells, Harvin, and Juanyeh.

Everybody go take note of which trolling dipshit disliked this post about a walk-on kicker who is perfect on the year, a punter who can kick the ball 65 yards, and a kid who took a couple of kicks to the house for us.

I just cannot imagine anything other than a losing season next year. The Pepper to Curry change was a nightmare for two years - two wins in Curry's first 22 games. That is an indication of the challenges you face going from a triple option system to a pro-style, I, or spread offense. I will be pleased if we win 10 games in the first two seasons. I think 2021 is the first year that you should begin to hold Collins at all accountable for win totals. If winning over the next two years was the prime motivator, we should have done everything we could to get Monken here.
Agree with 77.
I expect 3-9 next season. System changes with new coaches are usually disasters. I lived through the early Curry years....not pretty.
With Monken I would have expected 9-3

So watching the Temple bowl game, I expect some growing pains on offense, if we end up with something like that, but not utter disaster. They got into some drop back pocket passing stuff that we will probably not be able to protect in year one, but the roll out passes will be good. We have all the pieces to make that run game look amazing, and it looked amazing in the first half anyways.

Defensively... yep.

I expect us to win 3 games in the ACC and get curb stomped by UGA and Clemson. Max possible wins is 5 IMO, including Citadel and Temple.

Prove me wrong.

edit: we might only win 2 ACC games, on further analysis.

We won't see an Orange Bowl for the next two decades.

The Curry years weren't so much about system changes, it was more about hiring a "Tech Man". who incidently had no practical coaching experience at the college level and very little coaching experience period. Those first 2 or 3 Curry seasons was him figuring out what he was hired to do.

People who are optimistic about the CGC era are not as fickle as you assume for some reason.

Yes I get that you and some others are fine with 3 win seasons. I am just pointing out that Saban was a damn poor example for defending that philosophy.

Are you saying we can absolutely give up 8 TD's a game next year?

Probably not. I just didn't really get to examine the Temple defense for long, because they imploded on the line in the second half. Couldn't get in the pocket and couldn't touch an RB before a 5 yard gain. Duke had whatever it wanted.

What are your expectations for next year? We are transitioning from Paul Johnson's Option Offense to whatever Geoff Collins Offensive coordinator decides to install; but the first year will be about creating an offense for the players you have, not the players you want. You get Benson back, you no doubt have a better quarterback, an experienced TE, plenty of skill position players. We will probably get out manned in 3-4 games; but I am confident Ralph Friedgen could put together a potent offense with what is there, so should whoever our OC ends up being.. Add a DC who can coach a mediocre defense and we should be a bowl eligible team. It will be a big job to do during transition; but going 8-5 in the ACC Coastal with a couple of FCS games thrown in isn't some impossible goal.

So here is my expectation for next year:

8-5 with a top 30 recruiting class is the goal, anything above that is outstanding.
6-7 is the base with a top 40 recruiting class, with a likely bowl game in Shreveport or some place. Anything below that will be a disappointment.

öööö option coach went 10-3 and 9-4

after a 7-6 CCG season, CPJ went 9-4 in year one and 11-3 in year two. I would expect no less from CGC. CPJ didn't have 3O talent in year one...just those ill-equipped NFL types. CGC doesn't have NFL talent in year...only those ill-equipped 3O types. iiwii. deal with it, CGC. bring your own sack lunch. no down years.

öööö missing bowl games and getting destroyed when we make them

You're wrong,

wtf :bowrofl:

CPJ had JFN fall into his lap and a 1st round draft pick WR and beast RB.. basically an nfl D-line as well.. 3rd round draft pick S

To be honest, the problems on the OL are probably more coaching than talent. I think we can all agree, öööö Mike Sewak.

No way, it is not the coaching

It is the raw material

At Bama and at other schools that have good OLs, the HCs recruit based on a "Ht-Wt-Strength-Speed" profile, and then when you hit that, you teach the Recruit great technique, and then you have a player(s) that can execute vs. P5 competition

That's what GOL tried to do when he had his good run, the first thing he said when he took over for ***l ****s, was that the team was wayyyy too small, and needed to get bigger

A 6-7 OT that was a former HS B-Ball player with quick feet and long arms is gonna pass block better than a 6-3 guy that we have "that fit the system"

In the past we were too reliant on "the system" to guide our decision on recruits, too many times it came down to, "can he do what we need for OUR SYSTEM" vs. "will he develop into a GREAT FB PLAYER regardless of system"

We need more of the latter going forward

Yeah, it's silly for anyone to imply that he is entering a similar situation to what CPJ entered into. You can fit NFL talent into any college system. You can't necessarily fit a 180 lb A-back into any system.

I do think there's a lot of hyperbole when it comes to our level of talent. We don't have FCS-level talent, as most of our guys did have P5 offers. Our problems are that we have a handful of guys equipped for one specific system that just a few programs run, and more importantly, we have a lack of consistent playmakers on both sides of the ball. I'm hopeful a few of the young defensive guys will prove to be ballers.

We weren’t going to see an OB for 20 years with Johnson. Sorry that teams learned to defend your old man offense but they did.
