By nature being a place kicker on a major college football team is a stressful position. You sit around on the sidelines for the majority of the game and then many times you are called in to decide the outcome of the game. All kickers have pretty much the same form, leg strength, so what differentiates one kicker from the other? It’s their mental makeup. To have the ability to come in a stressful situation and routinely do your job without anxiety is what separates a great kicker from just another guy. I don’t know what a coach can do about that.
A coach can mess up a kicker by inserting a holder who has no hand/eye coordination and no experience handling a football.

Butker wasn’t that good while he was here. As soon as he left, he became automatic.

The point of the game is to score points. Our most sure tackler on the team was out with an injury. We are not a defense with a lot of depth. We held them to 24 points and they were actively trying to run up the score.
Yes and to keep the other team from scoring. What was troubling is the poor tackling was happening in the first half when the kids were fresh. Poor tackling usually occurs late in the game if you’re playing the same players on D. You’re correct that we aren’t deep, especially at LB. Still there were upper classmen starters on D that were ‘shoulder tackling’ and not wrapping the ball carriers up. When an offense goes for it on a 4th and 8 or fake punts when they’re ahead, not only are they trying to run up the score to put the game away but they don’t respect our D at all and exploiting our weaknesses. Efford is our best tackler. He’s the leader and soul of the defense.

I was starting to wonder if ND had some kind of super secret Teflon-coated jerseys that are impossible to grasp. Or maybe they just rub each other down with baby oil in the locker room.

Diddy loves the Damers, unlimited baby oil.......

Gotta have more than 1 guy period.... Need recruits in a bad way on Defense

How about having Sisson,Brooks, and Butker meet with the kickers and have a clinic on the mechanics and mental preparation necessary before and during a game to be a successful kicker?
Maybe we should give kickers and special teams units Xanax the night before a game.
