Fire Ricky BUMfeild

Just saw this report on IG. Have not seen anything else about it. Can you suspend a coach for not doing a good job? Is there something else going on distracting him (and maybe the team)? Strange to go from being so good he gets an extension and raise to so quickly doing so poorly.

So did this happen today? When the team (and CRB) is already in Blacksburg or earlier in the week and he didn't make the trip?

In my line of business, suspicions suspensions usually happen when the employee has broken some kind of policy. They are suspended until an investigation is completed and then the next step is determined. Normally, suspensions are used for more serious allegations.

I agree. An alternate theory is that perhaps Key spoke to Brumfield about results and there was some kind of interaction that caused Brumfield to be suspended. Not some fight, that's not what I'm saying, but perhaps some insubordinate comments. Now, perhaps, they are deciding what to do, and investigating the legal situation. I dont know any facts, I'm just reading into the publically available info.

I concur. There's no reason to "suspend" unless it was warranted. It sounds like it could be behavior or insubordinate related. We're going to find out pretty soon.

Probably recruiting violations being investigated by the NCAA. They are gonna make an example out of us as always.

I thought similar. Maybe Brumfield didn't take criticism well, and Key didn't take not taking criticism well well.

I feel like part of this has to do with punts not having a ton of hang time (leading to situations of out kicking the coverage), but one thing that struck me when I was watching the VPI game: It seems when an opposing team’s punt returner can juke the first tackler or two, they end up with a bunch of room to run. Contrast that to when our punt returner makes the first guys miss, they’re quickly tackled by a second wave of defenders. Again, not sure how much of that is the punt itself versus lane discipline, but just something I was noticing.

perhaps the hokies didn't know which special teams to prepare for?
CBK's post game comments were unusual...
.
On the status of special teams/cornerbacks coach Ricky Brumfield...
"Yeah, he didn't make the trip and that's all that's all the information I have."
On if Brumfield is still on the staff...
"Like I said, he didn't make the trip and that's all the information I have."
