Gibbs gone

This is bigger than Collins (who does need to fired regardless).

Georgia Tech fans, UVA fans, Ole Miss fans, Miss St. fans l, SC fans and fans of every single FBS football program that is not a perennial top 20 football factory are going to be disappointed year, after year, after year because of this transfer portal.

The smaller programs like Georgia Tech will repeatedly watch their best players get swiped away by bigger, better football programs. Just like bigger better football programs swipe away the best coaches.

The cat is out of the bag. It is no longer an amateur sport. You might as well be watching the NFL.
It has absolutely, zero, nothing to do with college anymore. It is a profession. Period.
Not only that, but the factories will keep feeding us their 5 star cast offs while they steal our 3 star diamonds.

College football is a game for big state schools with huge alumni and regional appeal. My brother met someone from Atlanta and told her I went to a Georgia Tech her response was “rich white bastard.” We can’t succeed in the big money environment without local support and we get close to none. It was a different environment before the big TV contracts and so much college football everywhere. Supporting the close local team to take in some action was easier then than now.
Well no disrespect meant but she is a clown, it doesn’t cost a fortune to go to GT and I don’t see tons of rich WHITE folks there. Part of the beauty of GT in my eyes is you can get a degree that can hold its own next to a degree from Stanford, MIT or Cal Poly and you aren’t broke for 20 years after paying off student loans. This starts at the very top the GT Chancellor or Provost or head dog whatever he or she is called has to be on board with having a football program and it being successful. It will take money and alumni, I’m not saying anything you don't know. I think it’s terrible to let a program with the history GT has to fade away.

I think the portal is definitely a net benefit for us, because the bigger programs can't play all the talent they sign. So some of those talented players realize it is hard to get drafted if you never play, and they want to come down to programs where they can get more playing time, like us. A lot of our best players over the years transferred into Tech (like Tashard Choice).

Can you blame Gibbs? Would you want to play for a team that gets destroyed 100-0 to real competition? Completely embarrassing.

In all honestly, who cares that Gibbs is gone? We are going to suck just as much without him. One above-average RB does not make a team.

Sorry if this is a dumb question or already covered. Does Gibbs now have to sit out a year, or at least apply for some exemption though the ncaa to play next year? Or are all transfers now immediately eligible?

Transfers, at least first time ones, are immediately eligible.

That’s how coaches like Kirby Smart and Nick Saban sold the idea to the NCAA. They lied.

The net result of the portal is going to be starters at Georgia Tech, UNC, NCST and UCF who turned out to be diamonds in the rough, and weren’t recruited by the Georgia, Florida or and Alabama‘s being coerced to leave Georgia Tech so they can go start for the SEC school, not have to worry at all about academics, and focus on football and getting ready to compete in the NFL.

The exception will be the star football player who really wants to be an Industrial Engineer or Computer Scientist more than they want to play pro football. They will stay at Georgia Tech.

The #1 thing that GT FB could do to improve is have the Fanbase get smarter & understand CFB in 2021, but alas , it doesn't seem like that is possible.

I know how you feel, we even had fans defending this coaching staff during the 3rd season of this debacle. There was this one fan who kept arguing that the players should know how to play before they even get here and the coaches weren't responsible for anything we were seeing on the field; but that's probably a discussion for another thread.

The portal will hurt George Tech. But nobody cares, because Georgia Tech can barely support its own football program, let alone help other people make money—- which is what it’s really all about.
Gibbs wasn't coerced to leave so he could focus on football. He left because we suck. It ain't complicated.

Honestly our offense isn't much different with or without Gibbs despite his transcendent talent. This is probably more of a testament to us not using him correctly (plus he's been hurt every year) but it's also a testament to the quality depth we have at that position. Anyway, I dont blame him because there just doesnt look like any light at the end of this dark tunnel we're in and he probably wants to go somewhere to flash his talents for the NFL in his third year as well as get some wins.

Gibbs is a special talent and has lived up to all the hype. The problem is when you have as many issues as we do, even a great RB isn’t going to change the outcome that much. The margin between him and Smith is much smaller then the margin between wins and losses for our team. In short, we are not going to lose more because he’s gone. Now for a team built differently, he could be what puts them over the top. I’m hoping he goes to Bama as further mutt prevention.

Maybe if he didn't quit in the last game we would have been closer.

He can only preform the plays that are called. It was obvious the plays that were called were such that we had no intention of trying to win the game but to shorten it to get it over with as soon as possible,

Guess what, there's an old saying in Sports:

Either you have a seat at the Table or you find yourself on the Menu!

As a collective group we claim to be much smarter than those guys to the NE of our Campus, yet they are in the right Conference with a seat at the Table each year, and increasingly we find ourselves on The Menu.

How do we correct that from this point in time?

We had a chance in the recent past to jump to the B1G Ten, would've meant every game easy to find on TV and $56 million in yearly Money vs $28-32 million from the ACC.

We have to realize that we have made a series of Decisions over 60 + years to put ourselves on The Menu vs having a seat at the Table.

Now is where we need to see if we are as big-brained as we love to brag about?

You can play with pain, you cannot play injured!

You and others are wrong for taking cheap shots at a guy that has played hard from Day1 at GT.

Show some class, wish the Kid good fortune, wish for him to avoid injuries and and a great NFL Career

That's the class thing to do.........

Act classy, other Recruits, Parents, and HS Coaches are watching.....
