Gibson: “it is why it is”

Wow is right. So he's basically saying he did give up. That is hard to comprehend.
By saying the words “take the loss” I think (hope) the kid meant take the loss of yards. No football player would say take the loss as in loss of the game. As somebody else said they shouldn’t have even let the guy be interviewed as his explanation was as messed up as his quarterbacking.

Nope. It was pretty explicit that he was talking about taking the loss of the game

But he also said he "knew it was time for one last play." And he said looking back he said he "should have given someone a chance and not just given up on the game at that point."

If he's saying he knew it was the last play, felt it was better to just take the loss at that moment, and looking back he shouldn't have given up on the game...I don't think he's talking about taking the loss of yards.

Agree with others who are saying he shouldn't have been put in front of the mic. Not sure what the rules are around that but what punishment could they really give us for doing it one time?

It may have been a subtle punishment by Key. “You made the play, now go defend it”.

Sure he doesn't have the arm to get it to the endzone BUT

there's always a chance if you throw it up...

even if he doesn't connect with a receiver, there's a chance for another play with a flag for roughing the QB or defensive pass interference.

Our offensive ineptitude was so complete our best chance to win would have been first down punts. I can honestly say I believed our best chance to score was on defense or special teams, not offense. I don’t know if I have ever felt that way in a football game before.

Another sign that the former head coach was in over his head, here we are a P5 program and we do not have a serviceable back up QB. If Sims is done I hope we work with Phommachanh all week in practice and come up with some semblance of an offense. The defense deserves better that what the offense provided last night.

If Phom didn’t get a look last night, that says a lot. It may have been the most helpless qb performance I’ve seen in 30 years as a fan.
Pyron should get a look before the year is over.

That’s crazy that someone would verbalize and admit to giving up when the game was theoretically still on the line. He will never live that down during his playing career.

I get what you're saying but I cringe every time our punter goes on the field. Maybe Pressley Harvin III spoiled me. But even when that kid gets his punts off cleanly (which isn't often) they seem like low line drives right at the returner. I don't see the leg talent at all. Especially sucks since he has such a cool story.
