Gibson: “it is why it is”

I can’t stand any of our quarterbacks or offensive linemen. They are all the worst in GT football history. Every last one of them.
The OL play is putrid. But to be fair I think it’s a pretty young line. With a decent coach they can still develop into a good unit.

Meh. There was little to no adjustment to the offensive game plan with the backup in. Deep sideline routes but he couldn’t escape the pocket breakdown like Sims can. And he couldn’t connect the deep ball either. Hall was woefully underutilized. Stepping out of bounds on the last play of the game was a merciful ending as far as I am concerned.

I get what you're saying but I cringe every time our punter goes on the field. Maybe Pressley Harvin III spoiled me. But even when that kid gets his punts off cleanly (which isn't often) they seem like low line drives right at the returner. I don't see the leg talent at all. Especially sucks since he has such a cool story.

He had a few good punts toward the middle of the game. Decent distance, forced a few fair catches. Things were dicey on occasion, but he was passable.

The display last night shows why it was almost criminal that the clown didn't play gibson in the garbage time during the clemson and ole miss games. At the very least, he gets some reps and maybe he isn't as bad last night - or - we at least see how bad he is in a game time situation and can focus on pyron or Phommachahn as a backup. That was horrendous.

My only hope is that gibson just looked better in practice and that either pyron or Phommachahn might be better in a game time environment than practice. That's about the only hope left this season.

We wouldn’t let him commit. Collins didn’t think he was good and was worried it would chase off Sims.

I don't know how much of last night's result is on the current coaching staff vs öööö decisions made by Gef. There are certainly things they could have done different, but being in their position must feel like running in concrete shoes.

Yeah, Gibson sucks. That’s why we haven’t seen him before now.

I’m more interested in hearing Sims explain why he’s incapable of playing through minor injuries. I’m convinced the guy will show himself to the bench for a hangnail.

Because the team is terrible, the staff is in transition and we (fans) barely show up. There is little point in making injuries (however minor they might be) even worse.
Those of us in the stands are not the only ones waiting for some signs of hope from a new staff.

Our QB reminded me of “Marty”

lol

Wait, didn’t we have a transfer who started at Rice last year?

There is NO WAY IN HELL he is worse than Gibson. I refuse to believe it.

I guess that cuts to the core of what's the point of playing college football in general? Team was far from terrible the last two weeks and one side of the ball was still excellent tonight. We were 2-0 under Key with a bowl solidly in reach and the schedule set up for us to make a run at the division title if we overperformed a little.

If a player looks at that situation and says, "What's the point of playing?" then I have to question if they'll ever be motivated.

Joe Ham was ripping on the offensive play calling quite a bit. He was pointing out how we kept calling plays that required guys getting open deep when the protection wasn't there. He kept asking for short, underneath routes to get him in a rhythm and keep us on schedule.

Honestly, I feel bad for the kid. He clearly wasn’t prepared for game action and that’s on the coaches - not him. Now that one play will haunt him for the rest of his life.

I disagree. He's 24 years old. This isn't JR HS 'ball -he's been playing for at least a decade. He's the backup QB behind a guy who gets hurt and leaves the games almost weekly.

How TF are you not prepared, as the #1 backup QB? Some of this is on him. Stuff like not spiking the ball with 0:08 left, throwing across-the-middle passes at 0:16, running OB to ensure a loss...that's on him too.

This isn't the first game for anyone on the team. As adults, they need to take some responsibility for preparation too.
