Haynes King starter?

Despite my posting this thread, I hope your son gets the job. Just posting based on the last series being given to King. Zach obviously has the most heart I’ve seen out of a player since I don’t know when. He’s a gamer, a battler and a winner. Kudos for raising such a strong young man.
I’m just a dad but I think you’re reading too much into that. And I like Haynes, so much so that I hope he starts, but I also hope my offspring starts as well. That’s the conundrum us parents have when these relationships are formed. Zach didn’t play a single snap in the 2nd half. He wasn’t benched, in trouble, or due to poor performance. There’s a lot that goes into all of this, stuff I had no clue about, consistency at practice weighs heavily. As does attitude and acumen. I’m glad there will be a Qb competition all the way through September 1st (Zach’s bday by the way).

At the end of the day I want GT to win. We raised our boys to work for everything they want. That hard work pays off, and that they are entitled to absolutely nothing. If he’s not the guy, then we are team whoever QB1 is. Will he be pissed? Heck yeah, and I wouldn’t expect anything less. But I can assure you you’ll never see him pouting about it.

This is an excellent post. Both seem to be quality kids and both have family proud of them. I just hope our coaches make the best choice for us to win games.

My assumption was that King needed as many reps as possible because the coaches need to see more out of him. They are comfortable with what Pyron brings. The coaches implied that earlier in the spring so that was my assumption for Zach being shut down and Haynes still in their late.

It is a sign to me that Pyron is the starter. Just a sign of course.

Watched the first half. Thought Pyron was clearly better, got the ball out on time and made some tough throws using the middle of the field. Haynes didn’t look bad, but didn’t seem to get the ball out as quick or use the middle as well; mostly threw jump balls types outside the numbers. Throws were accurate though, even when WRs were clearly open. Gibson looks like a solid 3, very capable but got the ball out too late a few times. Not as much arm talent. Just my opinion.

I met him at the autograph session after the game yesterday, kudos to you for raising such a great young man!
Why do you say that? He arm bar you and make you submit? Being a stingtalker, it is what you deserved

Yea, Pyron looked sharp and threw lasers. King needed reps as did Gibson.

We managed to get some reps for 5 QB's yesterday. It was a good day.

I just saw that as getting work for other QB's. We had Pyron at starter last season and the staff knows he is capable to start. Playing him yesterday in the second half meant little (not that you said it did).

We just can't get to the point we were last season where it looked like on the job training for the backups when pressed into action.

That said, I think we have a great opportunity to finally have a QB completing a high % of passes and being able to stretch the field.

That is the right way to raise a young man. Dads who instill putting team ahead of personal goals are rare, but appreciated. Good stuff here.

I'll reserve judgement until I see them play in a live game. The defense was very vanilla in the game and the d line seemed to let up and allowed the QB to throw when in live action it would have been a sack. May the best young man win, and the one that doesn't, may he have some humility and not transfer because you never know what the future holds...other than death and taxes.

Spoken like a true keeper of Rule #1. Kudos. I nominate your post for RPOTD (Righteous Post of the Day). BTW, what were you drinking?

Is this serious or satire? The dude effing cracked his collarbone playing his guts out. I’ll take a dude like that any day over the pansy we had before— he and all of his four stars can gtfo.

That is what happened but even before it did there were a bunch of plays where people said he needed to learn to protect himself or he was going to get hurt.

So while "injury prone" is a weird label to apply after only one injury, I do think he needs to work on adapting his play style to minimize the chance of injuries in the offseason. If he keeps playing like he did then staying healthy is going to be a problem.

The fact that Sims was...less than a gamer (to put it nicely)...doesn't change that.

That said, I don't think this is uncommon for QBs when they move up a level, so I'm confident he can get it done.

Got it. So some non athletic know-it-all nerds opined that he needs to protect himself, and he makes a gutsy play and has a relatively freak injury, we should now pound the kid for getting hurt. BUT, if he throws the ball away in a game that we’re going to lose anyways, we’ll pound him for not caring and fighting for the extra yards.
Ill take this version of the football player over the kid who has a bruise and doesn’t want to return to play.

If ranking a player as 1B in a conversation about the QB competition counts as pounding him, then yes, I guess you're right. But if that's the case then I think it will be difficult to have any sort of meaningful discussion about who should be the starting QB.

Also, I'm not sure why you keep bringing up Sims. This is a discussion about Pyron and King, right? No one mentioned Sims before you did or said that they would rather have him than Pyron. Sims is pretty universally disliked here and everyone likes Pyron even if some people do have issues with some aspects of his game.
