In case I wasn't clear, I like the QBs we have. I trust Coach to make the best choice for starter. It's nice to have options.
"A team with two quarterbacks has none" - Red Grange or Knute Rockne or Vince Lombardi
One of them old football dudes.
great quote and very true but not the least bit applicable at this time. We have a genuine QB battle that will carryover into the fall. This is a good thing and not an indicator that we have limited talent at this position.
And Shula learned from that experience.1969 Baltimore Colts
Johnny Unitas and Earl Morrell. Johnny U gets injured early in the season and Morrell leads them to the Super Bowl. Unitas is healthy for the SB but Shula decides to start Morrell, who throws 3 INTs before Unitas comes in late and gets the Colts their only TD in the upset loss to Namath and the Jets.
Neither of those guys had limited talent. But you gotta have a number one and go with him. Shula tried riding the hot hand instead of playing his best.
(What would Vad Lee have done?) is the real question. If ranking a player as 1B in a conversation about the QB competition counts as pounding him, then yes, I guess you're right. But if that's the case then I think it will be difficult to have any sort of meaningful discussion about who should be the starting QB.
Also, I'm not sure why you keep bringing up Sims. This is a discussion about Pyron and King, right? No one mentioned Sims before you did or said that they would rather have him than Pyron. Sims is pretty universally disliked here and everyone likes Pyron even if some people do have issues with some aspects of his game.
He played well, IMO. The deep pass to DJ Moore was a thing of beauty. Really, the best play of the game, IMO. I could see the two of them making a nice combo. Thanks man. He is having a blast and smiling. That’s all we can ask for. He won’t just lay down and hand anything to anyone. He will keep working and improving, he’s a firm believer in iron sharpens iron. But I’ll just say this, he’s had a very good spring and absolutely loves Buster. He’s picked up his offense really fast.

8-4 this year, and Bowling again.Played most of the game and got the nod to run a Two minute drill at the end of the game.
The same reason Mason and Smith rode the pine while we ran Gibbs up the middle in short yardage situations where he was ill-suited. His whole philosophy was play the hype, not the game.I felt that way last year after the Zachs came in to replace Sims: they both looked better than Sims to me, and I couldn't figure out (and still can't) why they weren't starting over Sims. I have nothing against Sims, and I wish him well and hope he develops more consistent accuracy at Nebraska, where I think he was a decent chance to start Game 1. But right now, I like all the guys we have better.
Hell walk-on Brody Rhodes put up an impressive showing. I think he could be more than capable if it came to him.
Yeah, that was another thing I could never understand. Gibbs is NOT a tough or shifty runner up the middle. If there is a big hole (which our line rarely created) then he can take it to the house for sure. But when you need three yards on third down, I am NOT giving him the ball between the tackles. One of the reasons I do not foresee a lot of NFL success for him. Maybe as a slot receiver and return specialist. But I'm not drafting that guy in the first or second round. The same reason Mason and Smith rode the pine while we ran Gibbs up the middle in short yardage situations where he was ill-suited. Gibbs in extraordinarily dangerous in space. Some NFL coordinator will figure out how to get him the ball where he excels.Yeah, that was another thing I could never understand. His time here was bad for a number of reasons, but I would not be shocked if he does well at Nebraska.Really a shame what we did to Sims. He wasn’t tough enough to run the flexbone, but he could have run an RPO scheme effectively.

This. As much as we've bashed Sims on here, I don't think his actions here were bred into him. I think he was coached to be that way.His time here was bad for a number of reasons, but I would not be shocked if he does well at Nebraska.
I dunno. He didn’t end up at FSU because he wasn’t going to be catered to as the only QB they signed. He’s always been afraid of actual competition.This. As much as we've bashed Sims on here, I don't think his actions here were bred into him. I think he was coached to be that way.
He was a lot like Reggie Ball, except Reggie was a tough mofo & found a way to win games.I dunno. He didn’t end up at FSU because he wasn’t going to be catered to as the only QB they signed. He’s always been afraid of actual competition.
How the hell was Sims anything like Ball?He was a lot like Reggie Ball, except Reggie was a tough mofo & found a way to win games.
