Haynes King starting vs Louisville

Could be a triple option style RPO with the pass taking the place of the ABack pitch.

Hey all, first post here but I like to follow the King conversation close as I watched him in high school and have been an A&M fan my whole life (thoughts and prayers lol)

King definitely had a rough go of it last year but I still believe his upside is incredible, our offense since he got to A&M was a rough fit for him honestly and last year was just a complete comedy of errors from injuries and more importantly for this convo our O line was the worst I’ve ever seen at the school, no exaggeration.

As someone who’s watched him a long time, I think you guys have something great in King if he can clean up a few things and stay healthy. He’s tough as nails and will leave it all out there. He needed a change of scenery and I’m excited to watch him this year.
Welcome and thanks for your input! Sorry about what happened to your Mom too

What's it like being in a cult and do you squeeze your own balls?

A true RPO has nothing to do with the QB running the ball. It’s a handoff or a quick throw.
You are correct, of course, especially in the NFL. However, I've seen a lot of college QB's in RPOs run for a lot of yards reading the run option, faking a pitch, and keeping the ball. But you are correct, the pure RPO is a pass, run, pitch offense.

What a warm welcome over here haha, feels like college football is actually here now ;)

I don’t think King is a savior, but I do think he can be a high-quality top 20% kind of D1 QB, Would stay away from that vaunted triple option though, he’s more of a sprinter than a scrambler if that makes sense.

Whoever said guns up…I’d say amen to that, especially around Thanksgiving!

As far as my mom, I’ll let my dad know she’s alive and she seems to be having a good time lol….good luck against Louisville!

I said "guns up", which is a Texas Tech thing (from where my son graduated). And from his experience, TTU and TAMU hate each other even more than TAMU and UT. So you saying "amen" to "guns up" kinda makes me question your TAMU bona fides...

Well, you don't scramble in the triple option, but I get your point.

Well aware of guns up, and have family that went there so that may indeed make me more open to them.

The dislike of ut is far beyond Tech, not even close really. Most of us actually like Tech, loved Mike Leach especially, and rooted/root for them in the big 12. I think some older Ags have more history with Tech, My dad graduated 75 and he’s not as kind-spirited towards them.

I said especially around Thanksgiving for that reason.

This guy ain't so thrilled....

I'll submit that we may have a better semblance of knowing what to do on offense in the post Patenaude/Chip Long era.
Jeff Sims was the worst Qb in GT history as far as I’m concerned.

Worst QB or played under the worst HC and OC in GT history? It's hard to say he was the worst, because it's hard to excel at that position w/o decent coaching. That is especially true when the rest of your offensive team was recruited for and trained in a spread option system, and your WRs were coached primarily as blockers in that system, and your HC and OC had -0- idea how to successfully transition from that system. Still, he seemed to exhibit very little progression over his 3 years on the Flats, while playing in fewer games each year than the year before. His INTs got a little better, but his TD's went down, too. HIs completion percentage was pretty good, but his passing yards dropped, partly due to his more and more limited playing time. He only played a little over half our games last season.

His slash for 2022, had he played all 12 games would have been:
188 comp/ 322 att/ 1911 yards/ 9 TD/ 5 INT.

That's not bad, but it's also not great, especially the TDs. His slash for 10 games in 2020 was:
141 comp/ 257 att/ 1881 yards/ 13 TD/ 13 INT.

I dunno. I wish him the best.

Next.

I was surprised to hear about the TTU/TAMU "hate" as living in Austin all I heard was the UT/TAMU stuff. Maybe it is a relic. UT fans are the 2nd worst behind UGAg in my book.

Oh, and while I'm busting your balls - There's only one "Tech". And it's in Georgia. I won't allow my son to refer to TTU as Tech in my house.

As I understand it, if you fail a class at ATM, they cut off your pinkies. Fail again, and you lose your ring fingers. Fail a third time and the cut off your middle fingers and send you to TT.
