Is Godsey ready?

These former players all have too much non-success on their resumes. What is there besides their alumni status that makes them good picks?
McIntyre turned around San Jose State and Colorado. He was 10-4 in 2016, dropped back to 5-7 last season and is 3-0 this season. I do not know if he would leave Colorado to return to Tech. We are not going to get a guaranteed success.

Maybe we can't afford McIntyre. "On January 10, 2017, MacIntyre signed a 5-year, $16.25 million contract with Colorado that will see him under contract with the Buffaloes through the 2021 season."

CPJ's current contract is for 5-years and $16.24 mil. Presumably we'd have to pay MacIntyre more than he's getting to persuade him to move. Love of alma mater only goes so far with anyone!

I personally don't think MacIntyre's resume is very impressive. First three years at Col he was 2-25 in the Pac-12. He has one year at 8-1. The last year he's back to 2-7. I'd prefer an OC or DC to that, personally.

I don't think GT hires an unproven coach. But I do think GT needs someone young and hungry who will eat, sleep, and crap recruiting.
Was it Austin Peay's coach who during an interview a while back talked about GA TECH as a place he would like to be?

There is no Tech man with a resume worthy of the job. Godsey's career hasn't exactly been on an upward trajectory. MacIntyre is 13-33 in the Pac 12. People need to let this go. This is Mark Price and Noodles Neal all over again. Stop trying to make it happen.

What's our history of hiring former players as HC? Not very good, Bill Fulcher quit after two years, Pepper was ok but could never get over the 7 win hump. Curry started out terrible and had one good season before bolting to Alabama. Maybe we could find a former player that ends up working out like Kirby has for the mutts, but the odds and history say otherwise.
Fulcher, Pepper, and Curry all coached while Bobby Dodd was still alive. Dodd had support on the Hill that later AD's did not. Dodd could get concessions from the administration vis a vis admissions that other athletic directors could not. As good as Homer Rice was, he did not have the same relationship with the presidents or the Hill that Dodd enjoyed.

I think we lead the nation in preferential consideration of alumni for football coaching positions.

Doesn't limit itself to football. People have been proposing Mark Price as our basketball savior for years with very limited coaching experience.

Randomly bumped into and talked to a former player, and current coach at another college, on the golf course this past summer. He said there is a collective of former GT players who are all currently coaching elsewhere that remain in contact. Their goal is to all end back up at GT with Goose as the head coach. Was very serious about it. Don't know how they would do, or if they would even be given a shot, but they are certainly trying to put themselves in position to be a part of the discussion.

If Godsey hadn’t been a Tech QB, nobody would want him for a HC here.

Being a Tech Man doesn’t trump all other qualification requirements.
I’m not sure but how has he done at the NFL level?
