Johnson/Option Haters - You are forgiven

Another counterfactual is Stephon Tuitt coming to GT and us probably beating Georgia another time or two--at least once. You can play the hypotheticals both ways.

Some other names to consider:
Travis Custis
Marcus Marshall
Dedrick Mills
Jaylend Ratliffe

Seems to me like Paul Johnson had bad luck more than good.
Trey Flowers committed to Arkansas after barely one visit.

That one is probably a weaker example. I'm just saying that this idea that Johnson was saved by the fact that Justin Thomas came to GT is ignoring all the times Johnson had bad breaks. How do we know Jaylend Ratliffe wouldn't have been a star QB?

I agree. I guess I think a kid considered a strong commit taking a secret visit and then committing to a place further away from his home than we are a couple days before National Signing Day is a bad break too.

I don’t think the ongoing CPJ butthurt is even about Paul Johnson anymore. It’s about the GT “fans” who took a big ol’ öööö on anything good we did for 11 years because they got their feelings hurt when their UGA buddies made fun of our high school offense. You know, the ones who tried to (and almost did) run off CPJ in 2013 because he was washed up and “would never win with his own players.” Congrats, you finally got your guy - the anti-CPJ. Recruiting improved, yet the team got markedly worse in every area. Defense somehow regressed, offense went from excellent to horrific, and our ST performance should be considered a fireable offense in and of itself. Lots of excuses about a system change, but the reality is we exchanged a guy who could coach his ass off for one who should get his ass kicked. Worst part is, not a one of the aforementioned will ever admit they were wrong. It’s just continued revisionist history and minimizing GT football accomplishments.

In short, a pretty big wedge was driven between the fanbase over the last 15 years, and CPJ retiring did very little to fix it.

May be my last post on Stingtalk, but just wanted to say to the Johnson/Option haters among you...you have paid your pittance and are forgiven. You reap what you sowed and hopefully learned the valuable lesson of jumping on the "fresh new fads". You had to sit and watch offenses that every junior high in America is running (some more effectively), soaking in the irony that you had spent the last few years of the Johnson era thinking the triple option was simplistic. You refused to hear the dread in opposing coaches voices when they talked about playing GT...haven't heard that in the last few years, have you?

All in all , GT fans deserved better, except the ones who didn't appreciate a coach and system that went to multiple Orange Bowls and beat Georgia multiple times.

Best of luck to the Yellow Jackets going forward.

Why is this your last post? Were you a tech fan or an option fan only? Was cpjs retirement the end of your allegiance? The disaster has finally been fired... Now's the time to pour a fresh whiskey and celebrate.

I have always maintained that 2009 UGA was the most important game in GT football history since the 1990 National Championship. No doubt the players felt some of that pressure to try to be the first team since GG to go 2 in a row and win at home against UGA. Very sad day. Probably a lot of uncalled holding taking place. Then the dropped pass. Very sad. Would’ve liked to have seen how a well executed drive finished.

It’s too bad Chan could never beat UGA.

Wasn't 2009 the year the NCAA pissed on Georgia Tech? Hypothetically, had Demaryius not dropped the pass, and scored instead, giving GT the win, wouldn't they have made us forfeit that game also? If I'm remembering correctly it was Demaryius that they declared should have been ineligible to play. The Dwags would never have let us hear the end of that. That game still makes me sick thinking about it. But it might have sucked worse to have the NCAA strip the win, and then the Dwags laugh about it for years to come.

Yes we did. Thank God Justin Thomas decided to come to GT instead of Bama or our downfall would have been much swifter
Shaq Mason was just as integral to that teams success. PJ did more with less. I appreciate the argument he was getting less and less due to his offense, but I also think it was due to his support.

We’ve yet to prove we can competitively recruit with Clemson, Uga, Alabama, Auburn, etc. Chan did have one good class but he’d run out of chances with the fans.

I like your custom title by the way.

Chan Gailey scored six (6) points against WF in the ACCCG with Tashard Choice and Calvin Johnson on the roster. F JJ and the Chan horse he road in on. Chan Gailey was the poster coach of mediocrity. 6-6 should be our base in this piss poor conference.

Unfotunately, Jaylend Ratliff got hurt or there may never have been a downfall at all & we would have enjoyed football the last 3 years instead of sucking ass with Geef. If, if, if, if. if.

Paul Johnson was great, legendary. But he could no longer win.

If only Paul Johnson could beat Duke. 5 (FIVE) consecutive losses. I’ll bet you Key changes that trend this Saturday. Drop it dude. He’s gone.
I can’t drop it when people repeatedly LIE about what he did here and where we were when we left. We beat Duke 38-35 in 2016. AND THEY HAD A QB WHO IS STILL STARTING IN THE NFL.

The two deep from 2018 likely has 7/8 players currently getting an NFL paycheck. Or will get one by next spring.

Can we organize a group therapy session with a licensed therapist for the Stingtalkers that are unable to let the past go? I'll chip in and pay for the therapist.

CPJ is long gone. He was a good coach. Time to move on.

Oh boo-hooo. We should keep kicking the CGC juice crew in the nuts until at least the end of the season, and probably until the next guy has a chance to rebuild the roster. Heck, we had one juice crew guy in the Pitt game day thread wishing we had Pnope back. Now y'all suddenly want to bar talking about previous coaches after 3 seasons of blaming all our ills on the previous coach. :shtstir:
