Key No Longer a HC Candidate

It would appear that Thacker and Long (although I am still not convinced about Long) were suppressing them. There is no reason not to think that Collins didn't suppress Key too. If Key could produce good lines at Bama, one would think he would at least be able to produce a decent line at Tech.
Was Collins suppressing Thacker today? No. You’re deluded but that’s your prerogative.

So Brent Key had no input on the OL he was coaching and he had no input on which quarterback to play as a head coach. You’re right, he’s a victim not the responsible person. Let’s offer him the contract on Monday.
You give Collins more credit than he deserves. Collins was a cancer on the entire program, and that includes the coaches on his staff, the players on the team, the fans in the stands (what few are left), and the play on the field. I honestly do not know how much input Key was allowed to have at all.

He couldn't get the players he wanted because they didn't want to play for Collins.
I’m sorry man but that’s a stretch. Nothing against you or Brent Key, the man seems like a true Tech fan, but these are excuses. If he can’t get decent OL and he can’t coach the ones he recruited then it’s a pretty big indictment on his coaching ability and his chances to be a decent HC. QuadF and I argued about whether we want a major recruiter or a big schemer and the dude is neither.

I will have to admit that Thacker certainly returned to his Collins ways today after showing a lot of promise the last 3 weeks. I really don't know what to make of that.
It’s called playing an offense in FSU with a pulse. Pitt and UVA are terrible offensively as of late. Duke was the preseason worst team in the ACC. As it looks today, it was an upset that GT beat Duke.

As far as your rant about talent, it’s funny that “anonymous” ACC coaches thought CGC was recruiting overrated players and that GT was as irrelevant now in recruiting as they were under CPJ. That was per Athlons before the season.

You can say the current staff inherited talent, and at some position that’s accurate. On the OL, GT was G5 level.

Key is 100% responsible for the O line. That is indisputable. 5 star players are easy to coach.

I can probably recruit pretty well at Bama too. What do I have to do? Just go to a kid’s house and say “hey you wanna play for Saban? Here’s $200K.”

I might remind you that many fans said the same thing I did about CPJ. They didn't want to play in a TO offense, no matter who or how hard they were recruited.

Triple option is an entirely different argument. You’re talking about a major difference in scheme that impacts how OL and WR and QB play. How does that tie to this argument?

Some recruits didn't want to play for CPJ because of the scheme. Some recruits didn't want to play for Collins because of LACK of scheme.

What is Brent’s scheme?

Thacker had a terrible game plan today. It was predictable and easily read by the fsu qb.
Maybe (I did stop watching pretty early), but what I saw was our DL getting their butts whooped and our LBs not being clean to run and make plays. Schematics wise, we've been going to the well a bit too often with the DE on the RB out of the backfield and FSU started running wheel routes to exploit it. Gotta roll a safety back over top on the 3 count if you're going to run that scheme. Catch them doing it and pick them off.

Look, I am not saying that Key SHOULD become our next HC, but I still think he should be considered. Hell, we don't even know if any of the names being thrown around would even consider taking the job ...... at least without another stupid contract like TStan gave Collins.
