Maybe choice has been made

Doesn't seem fair to say 5-7 is part of the Chan Gailey equilibrium.

He never had a season where he only won 5 games -- in fact, he never had a season where he only won 6 games. Won 7 every year except the year where he won 9. And he never had a season where he lost 7 games, either -- two seasons where he lost 6 and every other season he only lost 5.

Chan's time here was mediocre as hell but there's no need to misrepresent it.

A better explanation of the Gailey Equilibrium is in order. Chan was the kind of coach who could turn a 5-7 team into a 7-5 team, but he could also turn a team with 10-2 or 9-3 talent into a 7-5 team.

FWIW, I remember the days of "Lunch with George" when O'Leary was HC and BOB came in to give a short talk. I remember being extremely impressed with him at the time. It was obvious he had a bright future in coaching.

As it stands right now, I would probably be most excited about Chadwell at Coastal Carolina simply because I really like their offense (I love option football and hated to see it end at GT when CPJ retired). But I think BOB would be a very solid hire and he knows GT very well. I think BOB would be a winner at Tech. JMHO.

I just want to play meaningful football on the Flats again. We don’t matter right now. We can run the wishbone, spread, whatever…don’t really give a öööö who we hire at this juncture…..just compete and win damnit.

PS. So sick of seeing Ugag on ESPN. It makes me want to puke. I hate them and it makes me sick when I see the gap between us and them on the field. We should be freaking disgusted with ourselves that we’re allowing them to dominate this state. J better wake up pissing fire everyday until we get this right.

The monetary gap between the programs is staggering.
They've always had more money. They've always had better players. We used to find a way to beat them anyway. We played our game & kept them from playing theirs. We tried to run the same kind of program they run. It has been a complete abortion.

It's Deion or Key at this point
I want to hear from the one true Demjackets.

By the way, the last post of Demjackets, from 2012:
"I know Todd and really like him. I don't really want to get into who'd be a good hire at this time but Todd would definitely be someone a lot of people here would get behind."

Interesting that he stopped posting around when DRad left...

This should be the goal for us as fans and not drawing battle lines over who the next coach will be. I hate to see so many people indicating that they will be pissed about BOB (or whoever) being hired and won’t watch before even giving the guy a chance to coach a game. That’s a sign of a toxic fan base. I don’t really care who we hire so long as we play good football and become relevant again. I don’t care if the offense is like watching paint dry so long as we win.

The exception to this is bitching about someone who has a proven and well known character issue of a serious nature (you know what I’m talking about) if they end up on short list.

The monetary differences are exponentially different now (the recruiting budget alone is over 4 times greater than GT's) than it was even 5 years ago. Throw in the ancillary money related to recruiting from the NIL and the figures are/would be staggering.

I hope that GT can make an inspired hire that can help offset some of those differences. I do wonder if the average GT fan, the GT prez, etc. really understands the amount of money needed to compete at the highest levels like he stated is the goal.

This. Just win baby. I am a GT fan, not a fan of a certain coach or offense. I will support whoever is hired.

But did we really? Lets leave out the Collins years, where as you said we started trying to run the same kind of program as they did. We were 3-15 against them since three in a row under O'Leary. Since that time they've hired Kirby Smart and went from being a regular top 15 team to a consistent top 3 team that's won a national championship and shows no signs of slowing down. They're not just crushing us -- they're crushing everyone.

At this point in time, there's no realistic path to us beating them by "finding a way". They are simply on a completely different level than us in every aspect, and no scheme or difference in program philosophy is going to make up the difference. Unless something drastically changes with one of our programs, it's not realistic for us to compare ourselves to them anymore.

We should focus on competing consistently for the ACC title. If we can get to that point, then we can start thinking about hanging with U[sic]GA. Ten years ago I would have called that a loser mentality, but unfortunately I think now it's just reality.

Per national “insiders” Deion has no interest in GT. Supposedly he’s waiting to see if ASU goes after Mike Norvell. Norvell has strong ASU ties, and could be a good move for him. It would be a no brainer for FSU and Deion.

Auburn is going for Lane Kiffin #1 and Freeze #2. Question remains, does the new AD truly have the power he was promised to keep the boosters away from making the decision? But really, Kiffin going from Ole Miss to Auburn is truly a lateral move. Jimmy Sexton is his agent and will get Kiffin a massive raise to stay at Ole Miss.

Reports are coaches like former TCU HC Gary Patterson are interested in Nebraska. They’ve had a lot of interest and are at the vetting stage in the process. Jeff Monken is supposedly also a name to watch at Nebraska.

There are 2 jobs that are currently filled that could open up at the end of the season that would throw a wrench into everything. Texas A&M and Tennessee.

Jimbo needs to finish 8-4 to ensure another year. Based on the reports there is going to be a mass exodus to the Portal when it officially opens.

Tennessee. Reports are Heupel is getting serious NFL interest. Notably the Carolina Panthers.

So GT needs to have a hire in place if it truly is a hot name before the 2-3 SEC schools open up.
