ND Postgame Thread

Why do you predict that the next three years will be as bad as you say? There isn't much that can be gleaned from these first two years so far especially when we basically have high school kids with no offseason practice playing at key positions. Does the performance not match your expectations given the state of the program?
For me the performance is worse than expected and it is not just about the W/L record. We continue the same mistakes over and over. That is a lack of discipline which falls to coaching or lack thereof. Seems like not a game goes by where we do not have an illegal substitution penalty. How can a coach that makes 3 mil a year not fix this? And then there is our kicking game. The worst in the country, I would guess. Who recruited these kickers? So yes, it is worse than I expected. Just because you are out manned does not mean you have to be out coached.

He's had exactly one full recruiting class and you're holding him to missing big targets on the DL? Jesus. What did you expect? Some of these DL prospects have had YEARS of contact with coaches from Clemson, UGAg, Ohio State, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Alabama... It is gonna take a hot minute.
He crushed it with our future QB, RB, and LT/RT. He’s swung and missed along the front 7, even *so far* in this cycle. That’s all I’m saying.

Jesus. You babies take this shit personally.

It is much, much easier to find running backs than it is finding a 6'6" 5* 330lb OL/DL and convince him not to ride pine for 2 years at Alabama or convince him that there is no such thing, to quote numerous recruits, as an "SEC type" player. They have gotten years of love letters from Nick Saban telling him THE path to the NFL $$$ is through Alabama. Same with Clemson, Ohio State, UGAg.

We got Sims because FSU fired a coach. We got Gibbs because Tashard Choice saw film on an under recruited player and went full court press on making him ours before Alabama or UGAg sauntered in.

Hate to say this but our tight ends are terrible.

Deveney was pretty green to start with. We flipped him from Rutgers because he had nice size. Leonard was originally a walkon with only Ivy offers. Ward has promise and I like the two we have coming in. Still would have liked a grad transfer this year

Our guys are not big and lacking in the talent department. I’m excited about the 2 recruits but we’re gonna have to wait a bit for them to produce.

Of course, we literally had zero tight ends under CPJ so this position group was going to take the longest to get up and going.

Problem is so much of the alumni base care nothing about athletics. I am a long time side walk fan and Tech has a hard time drawing those. Honestly, and this is no one's fault but I am old and simply do not buy in to the new culture. I don't like the dancing on the sidelines, I abhor "money down" I do not see the need for a light show, etc. Just put a good, disciplined product on the field and I am happy. Not seeing that now and quite honestly, doubt that I'll be back next year. Attending games, even watching them on TV is no longer enjoyable. And before anyone points it out, yes, I know that I am in the minority.
Winning fixes everything
Always

Perhaps there's a shuffleboard team you could start following.

Please note, all the marketing is for 14-18 year old high school males. It’s not for us.

Well then we need to get some new talent in the marketing department. You know what sells to 14-18 yr old males?.......titties. Not a reference to a fully functioning defense from the 80s that we aren't anywhere near replicating.

14-18 yr old males don't even remember what happened last week except for the fact that they saw a nice stacked rack on a hottie. More gold standard appreciation thread and less black uniforms....boom marketing solved.

It takes winning to attract sidewalk fans. If you build it, they will come. We were attracting plenty of fans in the late 90s during the JoeHam and Godsey years.
Not sure that I agree with that. After the Dodd years, pre-pro sports in Atlanta, GT has had a hard time selling their product. Haven't checked attendance figures over the years but I do know that in 1990, coming off of a major, come from behind upset of #1 Virginia in Charlottesville and being undefeated, GT could not sell out the next home game against VT.

To add - The first home game of the 1991 season, after winning a national title, was not a sellout.

I hear you loud and clear. GT admits highly academic nerds and it is no surprise a significantly high proportion of those have little to no interest in team sports and even less interest in spectator sports; many probably feel it is beneath them.

As for the sideline antics, light shows, and 'money down', it would be a lot more palatable to all of us if we had a competitive team on the field. Hard to get excited about money down when more times than not the defense does not deliver. Dancing on the sideline sends a bad message when we aren't a team that wins bigly. However who ever blacked out Buzz's eyes made a smart move, there is no reason to let Buzz see what is happening to this team on the field.

Who recruited these kickers? Well let's think about it for a second. And we have had a dismal kicking game for like 5 years.
