New Edge Center renderings

I’m not sure so much that it was changed to match the surrounding architecture or costs. It’s probably more of the CEO changing it to change it. Just like when Delta gets a new CEO they change the tail of the plane so he can put his “mark” on the company. This was reworked so that Batt can say it’s his project and not Tud’s.
And it does remind me of when you get new leadership in the company. "We are no longer calling it TQM, it is now First in Service....until we change it to WCM"....any of which are just intro to Industrial Engineering, first class you take.

Hill gets this brick thing that needs some help finding character, charm and some of the North stands they left off.

Not sure if intentional or not, but a section of the upper north deck is missing in the rendering.

Lol you just nailed one off the structural fixes made for the design ööööups on the North End Zone addition. Note the truss at the bottom of your redline bubble/above and left of GT Football.
Any views of what this looks like from inside our stadium?

I like the original renderings better

I'm guessing that J Batt did some value engineering based on our financial situation, and that led to a cheaper and less inspiring final design.
Or determined that that building would be hot as öööö and suck electricity

We like to complain about how no upgrade in our stadium matches the previous. Yet we like the all glass look, despite it not matching. Well guys, the dorms across Techwood are red brick. The Callaway entrance is red brick. The Wardlaw is red brick. The dorms across North are red brick. That whole section of the Institute is mostly red brick. The new rendering matches the existing style well.

It's just the architecture nerds. Honestly, though, the longer this project draws out and more tweaked designs I see, the more I wish we weren't doing it at all. I'd rather we focus on either increasing revenue (NIL to buy a winning team, etc) or wiping debt service from the GTAA books. We have to find a way to become a more financially sound organization and this renovation seems to be a low priority item by comparison.

The architecture nerds had their moment in the sun in the early 80s when they pushed through the extension to the old Architecture building that was a giant wart of glass and concrete amid the red brick of the surrounding buildings.

Debt is eating the GTAA up. I suppose it's possible that they repurposed some of the fund to retire a larger portion of debt and make the building more affordable.

It feels like the upgrade the facilities no matter what was good for recruiting--in 2015. As you said, they need to reduce/wipe out the debt and focus on NIL $. I don't think that current or future players care too much about an new Edge center as much as getting some $.

I don't know what is wrong with the existing Edge center, unless it has structural issues. It used to open up on GameDay, but not in years now

I think the new building will be a multi use structure for not only the AA but also for fans too. Outside of the trophy room, the current Edge Building is choppy, closed in, outdated and is being redesigned to fit a variety of new needs. If we're competing with the factories, then yes we do need this building updated with more sq footage and function. It's also a great recruiting and fundraising tool too, giving fans and alumni a great vantage point to the field where there was none. Whether brick or glass, the building is a complete teardown and reconstruction and not a refitting (that can be more than a complete teardown and rebuild) sometimes. I for one am excited to see the end result.

Looks much better and much more timeless than yet another generic glass box. Big fan of the brick with soaring tall windows that fits with east campus.

That's what I never understood. It has always been closed 95% of the time on game day. With the new building it WILL be open on game day. I heard there would be a place where fans could also eat and watch the game too.

Also on signing days we would all go up to the 2nd floor which was down the hall from some of the FB coaches offices, it was just very underwhelming. The room where we were all at during signing day was named after a good friend of some of us posters who donated on a regular basis. Not sure if he's still alive or not. It was dark and just needed to be updated.
