New Helmet!

If you look closely at practice pictures from camp you see the comb pattern under the arms on the undershirts. The jersey will likely mimic those.

The team was wearing practice shorts with this pattern at the Jacket Day autograph session.

The haters need to channel their thoughts to the hokies. It's just a helmet; no design will make everybody happy, so let's have some fun with it.

My first reaction was "oh ----". But after reading the 300+ posts in this thread, I am starting to mellow to the design. It does seem to be getting favorable reviews from other websites.

I just hope this helmet and the new uniform don't come across like Army's camo uniforms on TV.

The hexagon pattern will most likely be a backdrop to the GT or whatever logo graces the sides of the helmet. It'll probably be much more subtle when it isn't the entire focus. In the linked AJC article above, Ken mentions it'll be a GT logo, though that may just be his speculation.

Like just about everyone, I'm most concerned with Russell royally screwing up the actual uniform.

There's still gonna be a GT logo on it. No buzz.

I think this is what the cryptic "they're not done yet" comment meant. The helmets still needed to have a GT logo added.

How about a photoshop of the original photo to look like the final product.

it says in the ajc that it was schutt...

I would be very surprised if Schutt had anything to do with these. A lot of people seem to think we have an exclusive helmet sponsor, but that's extremely rare in college football (I think West Virginia and Penn State have exclusive deals with Schutt, but those are the only ones that come to mind). Instead, we, like most teams, use Riddell, Schutt, Adams, and Xenith helmets. Different players wear different helmets based on personal preference.

The manufacturers generally have nothing to do with the helmet design, which is usually selected by the school either alone or in collaboration with their uniform supplier. A number of schools have gone with Hydro Graphics, Inc. to provide their helmet designs (Oregon's chrome domes, Notre Dame's extra shiny helmets, Maryland's flag helmets), but the designs usually come from either the school or Nike/Adidas/Under Armour. So unless Ken has some inside information, I assume Russell and the AA are responsible for this design.

we just released ours. just instagrammed it

Dems AND Mr. Bedford sightings? In one day? Amazing what these uniform threads will do!

The helmet says Schutt on it.

Correction: I would be very surprised if Schutt did anything more than manufacture the helmet.

I suspect you'll see a number of Riddell helmets with a strikingly similar hexcomb pattern on them.
