Next head coach

Long is more or less auditioning for the job now. Wouldn’t promote Long and retain Collins, unless both really wanted that. Would be difficult position for Long. Probably can’t demote Collins mid season without violating his contract. If Long looks promising by mid season he’d be be the safe option. Similar to O’Leary’s hiring (except we’d wait til end of season).

Going to be tough with your head coach telling you to pack it in mid-4th quarter.

I genuinely don't see where people are getting Long as a HC candidate. The new assistants were brought in to help Collins save his job. If that doesn't happen, there will be much better candidates available than anyone currently on staff. At one point, I could have seen Key take over, but the lack of progress with the OL has probably made that scenario completely untenable, as well. It's either Collins or an entirely new regime next year, IMO.

Gailey is a Nice Guy I think he could turn this mess around although it would be like 02' for a season or 2 Maybe not tho with the tranfser portal

I met him at a alumni function at beginning..Nice man.I asked him--what has been his biggest surprise asTech coach. He said "the NCAA rules and how it affects so much".

Long will be the "interim" .

The reason we mention Long is he is the first coach on the sidelines since Johnson who I have actually seen get on a player and hang his head in disbelief at some of the idiocy happening on the field by players. I’ve seen Collins and our other coaches yelling at refs but when it comes to the players it’s always high fives and hugs. Long isn’t that way and thankfully maybe we have at least one coach who will call it like it is and not pretend its getting better. It’s only going to get better if the coach’s force it to get better. Right now the players are not being pushed and the other teams players know it and smoke us. And because we have fallen so far we are now that team that nobody wants to lose to so they actually get up for us. At least when we were slightly above .500 we were invisible and could pull an upset or two. Right now the Ole Miss players know they better not lose to lowly GT so they’ll actually be focused and will probably hang 40 plus on us.

Chan had a different offensive coordinator every year he was coaching. To me this was ridiculous considering his offensive coordinator background in the NFL. He should have taken over the play calling and been…more like CPJ in that regard.

O’Brien, Pat Nix, John Bond, etc..

SMH

Ken Niumatalolo might be looking for a job soon. May be worth throwing him a bone.

If we're going back to the triple, I think monken is the better coach. Ken is past his prime (still a good coach), but I don't think he's the best choice for that direction.

What's frustrating to me is that CCL would've had a much more successful transition from the 3/o than pnode as he's willing to use the bread and butter plays that we used in cpjs offense. That's not because we ran the double slot last game, but we ran some similar trap and jet plays too.

People wanting to continue holding option football on a pedestal like it’s the only way Tech can compete have lost their minds. If we move away from Collins end of this season then I pray the decision makers have more sense than our fans.

Maybe we should prioritize picking a coach & scheme with a proven track record (Option or not) instead of dismissing things that work due to prejudice. Listening to the fans with what you described as "sense" is what got us here.
