Official Don’t Burn Pyron’s Shirt Petition

I want to give it up to Pryon this year. Kid played with incredible heart and extremely disappointed to see him go out with a broken collarbone. I hope he can rehab it quickly and build even great shoulder strength in the offseason. I think he has a bright future. He shows natural quarterback instincts and smart running capabilities when needed.

Maybe your expectations are much lower than mine. I want above average or better. I am seeing much different things. Poor mechanics, lack of field awareness and lack of arm are hard things to correct.
I generally agree with most of your comments on this thread. Folks here have gotten so used to watching poor QB play by Sims that anything even slightly better (and IMO Pyron has been that) must seem like the second coming of Peyton Manning. The one hopeful thing I have seen is that Pyron seems to be much more consistetly accurate than Sims (and what a low bar that is). Not great, mind you, but much better than Sims, who has been inaccurate since Day One - and who I said was inaccurate since FSU when folks here were ready to nominate him for the Heisman and mosdef did NOT want to hear about his shortcomings as a passer.

Having said all that . . . I disagree completely that poor mechanics is a hard thing to fix on the same level as arm strength (which isn't really even "strength" and is pretty much unfixable) and lack of field awareness (rarely fixable). Poor mechanics and poor footwork (which often go hand in hand) are absolutely fixable with good coaching and with hard word, dedication, and desire by the QB himself. Even (rarely) as late as their arrival in the NFL.

I view Pyron as a servicable stand-in until we land an "above average" QB, especially if he gets better coaching to improve those mechanics, a better supporting cast, and better playcalling. It's not saying much, but he's the best we've had since CGC shuffled in from the Waffle House. And maybe (?) as good a throwing QB as we've had . . . since Taylor Bennett, even considering guys like Nesbitt and Thomas, given that he is a true Freshman.

I hope we see him back on The Flats next year.

Generally agree. I don’t think anyone is saying he’s the next coming of Peyton Manning. For one he’s too short. But he has a capable arm, can hurt defenses when he scrambles, and seems to have a good head for making plays generally. As a true frosh that shows a lot of potential for improvement imo. Seriously doubt he becomes an NFL prospect before his eligibility expires but can see a possibility for that by his senior year. Could win a bunch of games prior to that and that’s what really matters.

Pyron is 6’3”.

Maybe you're right. However, based on what I have seen, its a far stretch. Either you have it or you don't. Maybe in 2 years, he will reach the level you and others think. I just don't know if we can be that patient. I won't be shocked to see a QB brought in from the portal. If we get the right HC. It would be my first move.

We ride with Gibson from here on out.

Serious question, when do we start drinking in preparation for COFH22? If I haven’t started yet am I already behind the StinGTalk status quo?

It's already too late. Odds are that you will be juuuuuuuuuust sober enough to feel the pain.

Out of curiosity, what's your background or experience regarding how to play QB?
Most Tech fans love Zach P. and hope he stays through the coaching transition. Jmonty was temporarily insane when he posted that. We need to find a great new head coach who can maximize his obvious talent.

Don't worry about individual comments. There will always be someone critical...

My background: Years on a messageboard.

Oh not at all. I love interacting on message boards. Like I have said on another board. I’ve been following recruiting for many many years, like from way back and I have a ton of friends that work in this industry. But when Zach became a kid that started getting recruited I felt it was best to back off and limit my interaction on the boards. But I still love interacting with fans, regardless of the team.

I won’t post much, but sometimes the dad in me just comes out. I will only speak the truth, and never sugar coat anything, even about my son. I will defend players if it is warranted and back it up with truth and facts.

I also know how fans on message boards can be, so trust me, I have thick skin. And quite honestly we appreciate the criticism more than the praise simply because it’s what fuels Zach. He’s been told he can’t or won’t by a ton of people. And everyone that’s said something he’s made eat their words. It literally motivates him. He actually prefers playing on the road because of that.

He’s been battling through some injuries, and unfortunately some are injuries that aren’t ideal when you are a QB and have to throw the ball (any of the quick game stuff was giving him fits). They started in his throwing shoulder at the FSU game. But he will be back soon and knows everything he has to work on for next year to become an elite QB and help GT win a bunch of games.
