Official Transfer in Thread

So, let's look at Jamyr Gibbs... did he help himself by transferring to Alabama statistically? Heisman? NFL draft? NIL?

I would say statistically he helped himself marginally. With respect to the Heisman not at all. With respect to the NFL draft perhaps marginally, but perhaps not as he would likely have had far more yards at Tech. With respect to NIL, we don't know for sure, or how much, but almost certainly yes, and a whole lot. I would say he's kind of the poster boy for transfers in the Age of NIL.

He probably also had a lot more fun going 10-2 instead of 5-7; playing in front of 100,000 people at home instead of 25,000; and playing for one of the best coaches in college history instead of the Juice Crew.

Winning is fun. Playing in a packed house is fun. Even players whose main goal is the NFL want to do those things in college. I think that is much more of a factor in transfer decisions than people realize when you're talking about very good players going from a bad program to a good program.

We need to get back to winning and putting fans in the stands. Back before CGC got here, bringing recruits to a night game at BDS was a program seller. Now it's probably a negative.

If Alabama had made the playoffs, the publicity that Gibbs would have received might have justified the transfer, since a lot more NFL fans would know who he was. He'd also have the potential of playing on a national championship team and the satisfaction of having that as part of his career. As it turned out, it probably didn't have much financial benefit.

thanks for posting this. These are very interesting statistics.Reflexively,it seems this is somewhat of a poor reflection on BoB in that he only produced marginally better results even when surrounded by elite talent. I watched several Bama games and certainly seemed Gibbs was the feature back getting most of the reps.

Bama was also in the playoff hunt until the LSU game. Perhaps the desire to play competitive football also factored into his decision in addition to NIL opportunities. Look forward to CBK changing this.

Had he not dropped that pass against the voles, they have a much better chance of getting into the playoffs, too.

Not sure if more NFL fans getting to know him helps him at all. The NFL scouts definitely know him and that is all that matters.

Yeah, I always thought this was the most compelling reason for him to transfer. He knew he had one year left and how did he want to use it? By this point, he knew he was a big time player and he wanted to play big games on big stages. And perhaps behind an OL that could open some holes.

Whatever team drafts him would probably like for their fans to recognize his name. The draft helps ticket sales, especially for teams that are coming off a bad year and need their fans to be energized about the next season.

Any team that is worried about if their fans recognize their draft picks is probably not a very good team.

Top picks go to crappy teams. Still I think your point holds up. Fans will find out who a draftee is, especially a RB from Bama.

Looks like we got another player to transfer in.
Jordan Brown. OL from Charlotte. We offered him in 2021 according to the Interwebs. Had a couple other P5 offers (Auburn, Mizzou, Syracuse)

Only played a little after redshirting last year.
