OK, let's talk about the Offense

We scored 23 points against a Miami D that is only giving up ~14 ppg during a wet, rainy game.

Scoring Offense has improved from 17.2 ppg to 30.2
Yards per play has improved from 4.84 ypp to 6.53 ypp
Yards per pass attempt has improved from 6.05 ypa to 8.34 ypa
Yards per rush attempt has improved from 3.75 ypa to 4.73 ypa

We were 125 out of 131 teams in scoring offense last season. Would love to be better on offense, but there has clearly been significant improvement on offense.

We need to get better on both sides of the ball. We really need the defense to show improvement similar to the offense.
I mean anything is an improvement over the last 4 years, we’re just talking about wanting to get even better.

Btw every game we win brings the Clown’s stock down even more. For us it can’t be worse obviously but the national media notices how awful the clown was when Key can pull off upsets like this.

We are halfway through the season, team has had time to settle in with the offense. Is this the type of drive chart that excites you?

Five of first six drives were essentially 3 and outs, with the other one ending in an INT. Of the next 3 drives, one was nice sustained drive, and the other two we benefitted from starting essentially in the Red Zone. After that, two more 3 or 4 play drives and then the miracle in Miami.

And the BG game chart looks a whole lot like this one. Scary to be even saying that.

Team has a bye week and hopefully that will allow for some serious reevaluation of what they are trying to do on offense and some needed corrections in the running game.
These are problems that will only be fixed by effective blocking by the OL. And maybe getting a bruising type RB in the mix.

What’s was the throwing at the feet of the receivers though?
Weak ass grounders about three times
All of which would have been really good gains if he had hit the open receiver somewhere in the upper body area
Didn’t take time to set before throw
Or was his hand hurt or something?
His last throw was on the run and it was damn near perfect

I attribute some of this to the wet conditions. I think it affected both QBs more or less equally. The rain had ended by late 4th Q I believe.

Not sure what our game planning is, but we look much better when King is allowed to run. I know it is risking the QB, but it was a integral part of the one sustained drive.
I'm not sure how much of it is "allowed to run" vs "afraid to run"

LOL only 14 ppg eh? They are giving up 33 a game to P5 schools coming into our game.

We finished 125th out of 131 teams in scoring offense a year ago. Our current QB who is our best offensive player transferred from Texas A&M because he could not keep the starting QB job at Texas A&M and you are surprised that we are not as good on offense as Texas A&M.

3 of the 6 games that we have played were against Top 25 teams on the road or a neutral site which is a much stronger schedule than most teams have faced so far.

Louisville = GT scored more points (34) against UL than any team this year so far including Notre Dame.
SC St. = We scored 48 points
Ole Miss = GT scored 23 points which is the second most points Ole Miss has given up behind the 24 pts Alabama scored.
Wake Forest = GT scored the most points (30) against Wake of any other opponent including Clemson.
Bowling Green = Oh the debacle that this game is on both sides of the ball....BG was shutout by Miami OH on Saturday. There are only 2 of 6 teams that have scored fewer than the 27 pts GT scored on them.
Miami = 23 pts against a very good UM defense on the rainy, wet night is pretty good. Need to cut back on the INTs seen over past 2 games.

I love that we beat Miami with Texas A&M’s unwanted QB. What Jimbo is doing in College Station is borderline criminal. I love it.
Let's not forget the receiver Haynes brought with him in Chase Lane.

Jimbo is a Class One Doofus.

The offense will continue to improve since the OL is very young. It was encouraging that the offense actually played better in the second half.
The defense drastically improved especially tackling.
The Bowling Green game video needs to be viewed multiple times before we play BC.

Agree.

It also outlines the reality that even worse than the decision to not take a knee in the final, 30 seconds of the Miami game, was Miami’s decision to fundamentally change a defense that has worked the entire game, into a “prevent” which allowed the touchdown.

There’s a reason CFB coaches don’t teach advanced level Physics or Chemistry at universities.

And it’s a shame they make >10 times more than the professors that do.

What I see

-King is doing a good job and is generally accurate and shows good ability to scramble- just don't be a hero
-OL is inconsistent - pass blocking is pretty good but run blocking is weak, Somewhat strange in that on some drives can be very good and others really bad. Better but inconsistent. Much better than has been in the past.
- Wide Receivers are very good - fast and athletic and very impressed with pickups and the group as a whole.
-TE's blocking not so good - better but #2 gets a holding call it seems every game and sometimes 2
- RB's really need Smith back - I assume he is hurt
- Play calling in general is good but sometimes can get very conservative - ie running the ball 3 times after King interception - we needed to go up 21-10. Conservative play calling to assure 3 points or keep a lead is sometimes pretty smart but I think we overdo it. However the scheme is solid and we have done a good job teaching timing pattern hookups between QB and WRs.

Using a drive chart for one game is sorta like looking at a stock price for one week to determine if you should buy or not.

What excites me is that we scored 34 on a Lville team that is giving up on avg just 17 PPG. We put up 23 on Miami who averages 14 PPG. 30 on a Wake team that averages 21.

Some of those are throwaways where he is just grounding the ball in the area of the receiver if he thinks nobody is open or is under pressure. It’s part of the reason he’s able to do a good job of not taking sacks.
