Do you terminate CPJ's employment?

I didn't say it was a reason to hire another coach. But it certainly mocks the belief that "This is the best we can do". We can find plenty of people to lose like this year, for cheaper. $600,000 per win (1 MILLION per win in 2015) means we're getting ripped off.
Well, I'm definitely in agreement that this isn't the best we can do. I'd just argue we should pay the same or more to someone better, rather than find someone equally bad and save the money. I hope that's a universal position!

I agree. I just think this whole "money" angle is a tad overrated, given that CPJ is the 3rd or 4th highest-paid coach in the ACC.

And will more $$$ suddenly teach kids proper tackling fundamentals? How to properly field punts and KOs? How to properly throw a ööööing football? How to have better angles at ball-carriers for our defense? How to block without diving at ankles, flopping like a catfish, and chopping? These are football fundamentals that should already be coached but either aren't or our allegedly-smart players are too stupid to learn what's being coached. Either, or.

I don't know about money. Per USA Today, CPJ is the 40th highest paid coach in the US and the 6 highest paid coach in the ACC (below Dabo, Fisher, Petrino, Mendenhall and Fuente). In other words... we're getting exactly what we're paying for.

There is, in general in a free market, definitely a correlation between the amount of money you pay your employees and the job performance they yield.

he's more deserving of a pay cut than a raise at this point.

as I got told by someone who has a lot to say about what happens at Tech, "the problem ain't the coach."
I was further told that Tech had been trying to do things on the cheap for far too long.

The last 4 years:
7 win / year avg
beat ugag every other year
2 bowl wins over decent teams
mediocre non-conf play
1 win & 1 close loss to a very good FSU
3-1 against VT
1-3 against a very good clemson
lost several games we should've won
Is there a point? we are 17-19 the last three years.

If you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Do you think we have four or five million surplus every year that we are hoarding away instead of spending it on a world class staff? I was under the impression that GTAA spends every penny it takes in, every year. I don't think it is going to a secret account in the Caymans.

There’s no law that says we have to have other men’s sports or spend x dollars on them. FYI.

GT fields the minimum number of teams required to be D1. Don't know for sure, but I would guess they also give the minimum number of schollys for non fb bball sports given title 9.

There is a minimum, but we're not at it. I was just about to post something on this. I'll find a cite for you.
EDIT: Started a new thread on this.

Are you suggesting we cannibalize baseball, or track, or swimming budgets and move it back to football? I am ignorant of the financials but my guess 100% of the money for these teams is a drop in the bucket. But I really don't know.

Even though this season was disappointing we still finished about 5th overall in the ACC. In CPJ's 10 years here only 4 teams have won the ACC and/or a major bowl game and only 5 teams (6 if Miami can get one more win) have had even one 11 win season. So I would say his pay is about right relative to other ACC coaches.

Perhaps we could go full Bernie Sanders and pool all the coaches salaries and give them all, HC and assistants, an equal share.

The only reason to keep him is that it's too expensive to fire his ass.

There are plenty of coaches out there who can get blasted by Puke and destroyed by the mutts for much less than $3 mill / year.
How many coaches do you think could have beaten UGA in Athens 3 out of 5 times in Athens? How many coaches could have won the division 3 times? How many coaches do you think could have beaten Clemson 5 times since 2008?

This past year was embarrassing, as was 2015. If it continues, CPJ is gone. But let's not act like he hasn't accomplished anything of note. I'd wager that there are only a handful of coaches out there that could possibly have matched some of the things I mentioned above.

We "won" the division twice...one time (2012) was only due to Miami and UNCheat cheating. It's nice and all but that team barely won 7 games and, had these 2 cheating schools not ööööing cheated, we don't lose in the ACCCG.

And how many coaches do you think would lose 3 of 4 to Puke? Have 2 of 3 losing seasons in a row? Miss out on a bowl game 2 of 3 seasons in a row? Blow a 20-pt lead at home to a pretty mediocre team of mutts in 2013? Get destroyed by MTSU at home? Lose to Kansas (St)? Follow up the high of 2014 with the low of 2015? The high of 2016 with the malaise of 2017?

There's only one way to really find out the answer to our questions though.
