Playoff

Betting is open for the two showdowns on New Year's Eve, and Caesar's Sportsbook has already come out with its odds. The point spreads for the games give us an early glimpse at how things are projected to play out. Let's take a look at what folks out in Las Vegas think about the first CFP to ever feature a Group of Five team.

College Football Playoff odds
No. 1 Alabama (-13.5) vs. No. 4 Cincinnati
No. 3 Georgia (-7) vs. No. 2 Michigan

Michigan was screwed by not being #1 and uga should have fallen to #4 (#5 really, but #4 if they made it). That would just switch the location and game time, so no big deal.
We were all screwed by the games being on New Years ööööing Eve, wtf

gimme Bammer minus the 13.5 and UM plus the 7. ..

i think michigan is optimal matchup if you are rooting against UGA. which we are. i think michigan will give them fits.

This is my take as well. Mich gave the high powered Buckeye offense fits. UGA’s offense is really going to struggle.

Of course the Mich offense is pretty weak so I expect a low scoring game.

Yep, woulda actually made sense but committee had to put sec team #1, basically just said their previous week rankings and big10 championship were meaningless

UGA is playing for Championships each year. Meanwhile GT isn’t even playing in the New Mexico bowl. I’ve said why I came over to Stingtalk so I’m not going to repeat myself. I also know I’m about to be banned for these posts and that’s cool. Some of you guys spend more time taking shots at each other than you do talking football. I’m amazed at how much time people on this site spend talking about UGA. You know how much time UGA fans, students, coaches, etc spend talking about GT? ZERO. Unfortunately you have become not relevant. If I was new to this city I wouldn’t know GT existed. That to me is sort of sad and honestly that would be something productive to be discussing in order to change.
Playing for them and winning them are two different stories, homeboy. UGA = Bama fanbase with a Vandy trophy case. Truth! Choke on it!

The dwags are favored?!

Agreed. Michigan is significantly stronger and more physical than Cincinnati. It wouldn't surprise me if Bama is resting starters in the 4th.

The betting lines and the media are already feeding Michigan some of that yummy version of rat poison.

You know what’s humiliating is going 3-9 three years in a row and likely will do the same next year. When are y’all actually going to be relevant in the discussion for any Championship, for Gods sake you are in the ACC. How many ACC teams will be in the CFP this year? You are the ones that should be humiliated. Most of you will continue to wallow in your pitiful football existence because you don’t have the balls to change it. Look at your stadium on any given Saturday, you can’t even fill your tiny ass stadium in downtown ATL., 10,000 in a stadium that seats 54,000, you should be humiliated. Your inability to negotiate the right contract for your coaches, you should be humiliated. I’m just scratching the surface but you get the picture. Say what you want about UGA but that isn’t making GT better, I mean the bullshit some of you say about UGA after they curb stomp your team, you don’t have the self awareness to even be humiliated. Yeah I’ll be banned for life from this site because the truth is painful and sometime humiliating to accept.

ESPN is so in love with the SEC that it is sickening! The CFP needs to expand it's format from the current four team playoffs to twelve teams playoffs. Selection of teams to the CFP should be automatic bids to the WINNERS of the Power5, Conference Championship games, with at-large bids going to G5 Conference Championship WINNERS, and the selection of two wild-cards teams that have made an impact in any given season. Naysayers said expansion to a twelve team CFP will destroy the bowl games as we know it. Methinks there are too many bowls now, raise the winning threshold from the now 6 games minimum to 7 games minimum. Use some of the lesser bowls like the Peach, Gator, Outback, Citrus, Alamo, Liberty, Music City, etc, etc, as the CFP 1st & 2nd round games. I am sure there would need to be some tweaking of this format, but I prefer something along these lines to give the Cinderella teams in any given year a chance to play for it all. This lovefest for the SEC has gotten really old. THWG!!

I cannot get behind any proposal that has a possibility of someone losing their conference having a potential to be national champions. I hate the current system and codifying its major flaws would only alienate me as a CFB fan. Undefeated teams should be in. I still think that UCF team from a while back has a legitimate grievance and should have sued. Otherwise, what's the point in competing in FBS if perfect isn't good enough?

I still want an 8 team playoff. P5 champions get in. Highest ranked non P5 champ is in. Two at large get in. Georgia and Notre Dame would get in this year. Top ranked conference champs get seeds 1-4. This year that would be Bama, Michigan, Cincinnati and Baylor. Remaining four are seeded by their rank. So, 1-8 would be Bama-Pitt, 4-5 would be Baylor-Georgia, 2-7 would be Michigan-Utah and 3-6 would be Cincinnati-Notre Dame. This works well.

Just to point out that playoff expansion has nothing to do with fairness. You guys coming up with all these 8 or 12 team playoff scenarios aren’t seeing the forest. It has nothing to do with any conference champs or G5 teams or anything. Those are all words to cover what expansion is about - MONEY. I’m a total advocate for expansion because I want more and better college football and I want my team to get a chance to prove it on the field in those 1 of 10 years we are pretty good. It will expand way beyond 12 within a decade.
