Post game Discussion 9.30.2023

On the plus side, Wake will go down in rankings on their bye week.

The fact that we got out to the 14-0 lead and so clearly looked like a team with superior talent and then spent the rest of the game playing with our food makes it even worse. We had guys giving coaches hugs on the sideline like it was the 4th quarter of a blowout, instead of 5 minutes into the game, and their effort the rest of the game reflected that.
It's kind of like they don't get that it's the games themselves that are what count. You can have all the great practices and all the great love and fellowship but if you're not winning the games you're doing it wrong. Goof would say 'Great effort.' I say piss poor.

My Saturdays just got better. Going to spend time doing a lot of family things.
I'm still in for the remainder of the season, but I just don't see a ST renewal in my future plans. Been a ST holder a long time. I'm too old for this öööö.

This says a lot. I lost interest in going to games during the Gef debacle when I had STs for year 1. All my friends found other things to do after the Citadel disaster and stopped going to games. I had already bought the games and felt obligated to go. I found that I was resenting the trip more and more each week.

What really sucks is to look at the difference in trajectory between us and Duke. That is 100% on poor management and coaching hires.

I really don't think thacker is the problem. I think the problem is lack of talent. We had a killer defense this year. This year we just don't have the dudes. We loved Thacker last year. It wasn't long ago either when BK was offensive line coach and we were calling for his head.

We are rebuilding. GC destroyed the program with significant long lasting damage. It's going to take at least 2-3 years to right the ship.
Ah, yes, the perpetual rebuild excuse...

The only rebuild excuse I buy is that there is still enough of Gef’s happy fun time crew both on the team and on the staff. That’s the only explanation for the team coming out and playing like they did yesterday. We very clearly are lacking in attention to the details that make a consistent winning football team. So of course when our team decides on Monday that they are superior to their opponent we go out and lay an egg. We have plenty of talented players. We lack a culture of doing things the right way.

The biggest comeback in CFB history was Bobby Ross at Maryland over Miami (I think Miami). He essentially told the team, down huge at half, that he was going to work them in practice until they ööööing died. Maryland players responded and won.

He then, as our players at GT were quitting on him, gave them an option. Since they wouldn't play for him or motivate, he would resign from GT, up to them. Our players manned up and came through for coach.

I just don't know if we have any of that on this team.

I expected us to come out in the second half on fire, down only three. Instead, we got another 3rd quarter disaster. What the hell is going on in that ööööing locker room at half. Our opposition comes out with a plan. We come out clueless as hell. It is more than just a one time occurrence. We legit suck after half.

And we can absolutely forget about any BIG10 or SEC dreams. We will be in some broken form of the ACC/AAC after UNC, Clemson, Miami, FSU, and perhaps UVA leave eventually for greener pastures. Even Duke has more of a shot now than us. We are a smouldering pile of öööö program right now.

You’re not good enough to overlook anybody, not while trying to remove the clown’s stench off you would have been my response.
Yeah- said they let off in second half against UL…..guess they still haven’t learned that lesson.

Pretty sure I’ll stop maki g excuses why I can’t do other things by saying there’s a home game. I’ll start doing the other things instead.

I can spend my ticket money on hunting.

Eastern Illinois gave up 38 to BG. So did we.

Thacker is basically trotting out a directional Illinois college defense.

I’ve never been more embarrassed to be a GT fan. I truly thought we had gotten past öööö like this. This is complete rock bottom.

I think we are seeing a bit of a mutiny on the team. I don’t think this is totally on the staff.

Taking over a team that was not accountable for anything and turning them into a tough, disciplined group is going to have days like this.

Not letting anybody off any hook but I am saying this looks like a lot more than a coaching issue.

I have a couple of nice Kayaks and a river put in about 9 miles from the house. Yesterday would have been perfect for a 3 hour float.

My nausea is quickly turning into numbness but I’ll still love GT. Benson’s parents were sitting next to me and they were just as agitated as all of us, especially when Haynes failed to connect with him when he was wide open, twice. It was a comedy of errors but here’s what I noticed as some of you have already mentioned.

1.Defense - Thacker’s 4-2-5 isn’t and can’t work unless you have stud DLs and great LBs.
2. Tackling - worst tackling I’ve seen in my 32 years watching GT.
3. Secondary/4-2-5. We have 5 DBs playing read and react zone coverage and their simple motions confused us and their RBs, TEs were running free and uncovered.
4. Two RBs under 5’8” ran around and over us.Breaking tackles like a pop Warner game.
5.Their O played against us perfectly. Took advantage of our weaknesses.
6. Letting Turner and Knight go we’re not only head scratchers but may be part of the reason for our poor play at the 1st and 2nd levels.
7. O Line still can’t run block
8. OL can’t handle jailbreak blitzes. They were getting so aggressive with it they were ok with taking the penalties for offsides and still brought them.
9. No respect for our D. Making 4th down conversions.
10.Key better lay down the hammer this week in all facets.

With a bottle of cheap whiskey and no radio/phone.
