Post game Discussion 9.30.2023

My nausea is quickly turning into numbness but I’ll still love GT. Benson’s parents were sitting next to me and they were just as agitated as all of us, especially when Haynes failed to connect with him when he was wide open, twice. It was a comedy of errors but here’s what I noticed as some of you have already mentioned.

1.Defense - Thacker’s 4-2-5 isn’t and can’t work unless you have stud DLs and great LBs.
2. Tackling - worst tackling I’ve seen in my 32 years watching GT.
3. Secondary/4-2-5. We have 5 DBs playing read and react zone coverage and their simple motions confused us and their RBs, TEs were running free and uncovered.
4. Two RBs under 5’8” ran around and over us.Breaking tackles like a pop Warner game.
5.Their O played against us perfectly. Took advantage of our weaknesses.
6. Letting Turner and Knight go we’re not only head scratchers but may be part of the reason for our poor play at the 1st and 2nd levels.
7. O Line still can’t run block
8. OL can’t handle jailbreak blitzes. They were getting so aggressive with it they were ok with taking the penalties for offsides and still brought them.
9. No respect for our D. Making 4th down conversions.
10.Key better lay down the hammer this week in all facets.
In defense of their 5'9" running back, he weighs about 225 and has been compared to Barry Sanders. He is easily the best player in their team. He's a bowling ball. Reminds me of that Maryland running back I used to fear (Ball?)

And another complaint. We are so ööööing amateur for the whole stadium experience.

1) the North Avenue pregame setup absolutely sucks balls. The band march in with the wreck and playing on the stairs has been destroyed. Literally NOBODY CARES about the Wreck and band playing on North Avenue. You can't see a ööööing thing. The stairs at Callaway worked because it was a visible performance, not guys standing on a corner line cheap whores.
If I were UGAg, I would ABSOLUTELY try to have my band play the stairs at Callaway. One big F-U GT. As their DT Adams said to Yates "you guys are so unprepared". It shows in our pregame "festivities"
2) the handling of our recruits is a disorganized ööööing mess. Jesus F Christ sitting there watching us try to corral them like they are a heard of cats. We directed them to one narrow stairway and kind of randomly put them in the west stands, I suppose. It was a öööö show. Crowd them into a funnel and pack the area where the band comes out. Took 20 minutes to get them sorted. Embarrassing

And look at that crowd!

3) and I don't need 130 decibel gameday PA. And nobody likes your öööö music. And did we blare Luke Bryan at one point? I am concerned that GT football has now become a psychological study by the CIA to see how far a man can be pushed and prodded before leaping from the north deck. Don't worry, I wouldn't jump. We aren't worth it. I'd just get hot pointed sticks and poke my eyes and ears out.

4) sat down to drink my Coke Zero from the LW burger grill. Absolutely flat. öööö. The burger was about what you'd get in a high school cafeteria. Fries were OK though.

5) I am drinking beer while UGAg massacres us. There is no fight in me. It won't be close. They are right. They are superior.

1) I think their are locker room issues. Lots of turnover in staff and players and I expect that caused friction that has not been resolved.

2) Should have cleaned house on D staff; I expect that is contributing to #1

3) Huge mistake to trade a DL coach with 20 years of good experience for a coach with limited experience and no success.

4) Specifically our defense does not play hard. Watch other teams and they play hard and most hit hard. I’m not sure we have a single hard hitter. Maybe Powell but he is small. Key/Thacker mentioned after first game the D needs to swarm to the ball but that still hasn’t been fixed. Either coaches are not requiring that or the players don’t care what the coaches say.

5) I think Key recognizes it. He has said a few things the last few weeks that acknowledge it without saying it directly. It might take another year to fix it but it can start this year.

6) Alternative is Key is in over his head.

That is 100% on the coaches. You expect tactical adjustments, and you expect players to come out angry. Neither one happened.
Bullshit it’s all on the coaches. At what point do we expect players to motivate themselves and have some pride? You’d think they’d get tired of the other team beating them like yard dogs.

I have a couple of nice Kayaks and a river put in about 9 miles from the house. Yesterday would have been perfect for a 3 hour float.
The Coosa makes a nice little run through Wetumpka a few miles away. Even closer is Cooters Pond on the Alabama River not 3 miles from the house.

What is Cooter's pond named after? I may be interested

It’s on the coaches to identify and resolve problems. That includes attitude and discipline problems. Ross did it. OLeary did it. Key started doing it with Sims last season. Job evidently isn’t finished. If Collins recruits are showing bad leadership, it’s on Key and staff to either change their attitude or move them aside.

These are not middle schoolers. In 1945 people this age were storming beaches all over the world.

Stop coddling these little pansies. I expect them to man up and have some ööööing pride.

I think he has moved some bad attitudes aside. I can think of one player in particular who has disappeared this season. But that may be making some other bad attitudes pop up in places where we don’t have other horses to run with.

I'ma make you a worry doll

Bravo.

Hilarious and I'm laughing as I type this, to keep from crying. I've enjoyed my season tickets for the last 24 years, but it will be easy for me to let them go next season when the older one is off to college (likely out of state). Really tired of watching such a poorly coached team week after week and even worse, hearing the dopes on the team think that a game is won before it starts or in the first quarter. The fact that this mindset is even around a program that is the doormat of its league is embarrassing.

6) Alternative is Key is in over his head.

Looking like this. He was on the previous failed staff and he should have cleaned house on the D side of the ball. I understand the "budget" for the staff, but there is NO WAY that whatever Thacker is stealing from GT in salary couldn't be used to upgrade the coaching on that side of the ball.

Key is a small upgrade over Goof at this point. For a player that was known as a tough guy when he played, his team is soft.

True dat. Softest DB I can ever remember at GT. Bunch of twinkies back there not wanting to offend anyone.

Oh, for the headhunters like Jeff Faulkner, Joe Wolf, Rick Lewis, and Bubba Hoats. Those guys would, to a man, lay the lumber on any WR who dared come into their space.

He tries to come off as tough but it just makes you feel sorry for him when he speaks. He needs to learn how to speak better to the press.
