Just my opinion but I don’t think Graham has done enough to be awarded the first snap based on experience, or to be the starter until proven otherwise. I’d view it as a 100% open competition in camp, the player performing the best in camp gets the first snap; player performing 2nd best is the next man in.

I haven’t had less of an inclination on who will be GT’s starting quarterback than I have leading up to this particular season.

From the extremely limited amount of film I’ve seen, Sims looks like a stud and Yates looks like a playmaker. Gleason seems to be a great choice if our OL wasn’t so godawful. And Graham got a bad shake last season because he was getting face-planted on 75% of all throwing plays.

So yeah...I’ve got no idea.

OL should be vastly improved from last season, in fact we should see more improvement on OL than at any other position on the field. That is not me trying to build unrealistic expectations; it probably will not be a great OL; but it should be significantly and obviously improved.

I think this is the case, improved OL but still not very good upfront. I think we make a bigger jump on the OL in year 3.

I think Graham starts and Sims is the second guy that we see. And I don't think we'll have to wait particularly long to see Sims. Neither Collins nor Paternaude seem too high on Yates; hope he can play CB as well as Oliver can. We have to play the guys with high ceilings.

Yeah, it’ll be better but losing that NFL-bound transfer really tempered my expectations for the group.

I expect the OL to play like a young well coached OL. We may not blow Clemson off the line in short yardage; but they should be able to form a pocket against the likes of Pitt, BC, & Syracuse with some consistency; and play respectably against Duke, Louisville, NCState and maybe FSU.

The poll is one question and you ask another. I’d have to put money on Graham taking the first snap barring injury.
Yeah, I answered based on the question in the post. Graham definitely gets first snap. I think Sims is QB1 by end of the year. Lesser chance it’s Gleason.

Yates isn’t athletic enough to play anywhere except QB

You're right, that is total speculation. Sims is throwing dimes from what I've heard. Gleason is more game ready at this point, though, because he's got a better feel on pre-snap reads and checks from what I've heard. I think it's a misconception that Gleason isn't athletic, he's probably the better running QB of the two, with Sims having the better arm.

A couple of things in the true-Freshman's favor:
- they are both 6'3", Graham and Yates are both under 6ft
- we need better reads
- we need accuracy
- we need better decision making
The QB position underperformed last season. I know the OL had issues (understatement), but there were plenty of missed opportunities, and an inability to make things happen on their own (ie. running) when the shit hit the fan.

Considering that this year isn't going to matter all that much and considering that the loss of the Left OT makes this Oline a big question mark again, why would we overly push a freshman QB. UNLESS, promises were made........Now, if the loss of the year of eligibility doesn't matter and is official, I am quite sure that the freshman are being pushed hard.

It think this year matters more to GT than other teams in the ACC with the exception of maybe Clemson. For recruiting purposes we need to show something positive going forward to sell to recruits. I don't particularly care who the starting QB is this year, I just want the offense to look more convincing than last year.

KQ was on the Chuck Oliver Show this afternoon and intimated that as of now out of the 4, Graham is # 4, Yates is #1 with the two freshmen battling for the #2 spot.

This pretty much sums up this offseason for me.

Well... they are pretty much all freshmen.

I predict four different starters for first four games. Fans will wonder why the offense is stagnant. Starter finally settled by game 7. Competition is king.

So long as we don’t waste time with a half dozen stupid gimmick plays in the first 4 games, I’ll be happy. Instead of those stupid formations, we can work on 2 or 3 variations on an under center I-formation play. Mason at FB. Maybe FB hand off, RB running off tackle, and QB follow.
