So long as we don’t waste time with a half dozen stupid gimmick plays in the first 4 games, I’ll be happy. Instead of those stupid formations, we can work on 2 or 3 variations on an under center I-formation play. Mason at FB. Maybe FB hand off, RB running off tackle, and QB follow.
That sounds equally as bad as the gimmick plays

KQ was on the Chuck Oliver Show this afternoon and intimated that as of now out of the 4, Graham is # 4, Yates is #1 with the two freshmen battling for the #2 spot.

He said Yates understands the offense better than anyone, but he's not quite there physically. He said Sims or Gleason would probably start against FSU.

Mason as a FB doesn’t sound appealing is more what I was getting at

He is (obviously because of the 3o) capable of taking the quick hand off, so the DL/LB would have to respect that. That would make his blocking responsibilities easier (again the same block a BB made in the 3o when the QB pulled the ball). Then you have the Fr RB in a more comfortable position.

Not that I am tied to the idea. I would just drop the gimmick plays and use that time to work on a traditional short yardage playset.

here's an idea that might appeal to you. let's run a play where the wingback reverses behind the quarterback and the qb can decide to give it to the fullback, the wingback, or keeps it himself!

or not. I'm just spitballing. you said you want to avoid gimmick plays.

Maybe a head fake? Could be true, there have been hints, of course those could be head fakes too. Thing is, I don't see much value to fsu if they believe any of the 4 are starting. First down yardage imo will determine the winner in Tally.

It is Quinlan's interpretation of the situation. Let's just say I trust him a lot more for recruiting info than this kind of stuff.

Me too and I've seen how many times "the situation has changed, how dare you ask why my scoop was wrong" on the recruiting front.

Sounds like a gimmick system.

No, what I am talking about is a formation that every pro team will line up in. And they will run a play out of it. Usually a time or two in a game. Some teams run it more.

Most of the teams that have players drafted also will run this formation. I believe Coach Key may have even helped coach it at Alabama.

KQ has been very noncommital thus far on QB on his board. They haven't been in pads much and that's where the men are separated from the boys. DP talked some about QBs today. Spoke glowingly of Sims' tools in particular but also reiterated that they need consistency from someone.

Since this might be "developmental" season,it could be the time to tryout the best 2 and see what happens. Could it be worst than last yr. at the end?

From what I have seen of Yates in high school, he plays like a leader/winner.

From what I have seen in Graham, he will scamper out of bounds a half yard short of the sticks on 3rd and 6.

I have not seen the other two guys play.

I'll take the less athletic leader / winner.

I read ‘not there physically’ as short. This sounds stupid.

I saw Yates play Parkview in high school and wondered why CPJ had offered. I thought he was very impressive, but had a hard time envisioning him under center and running our offense. My thoughts were that he was much fit for a shot gun, one back, read option type of system, one much more like what we run with Collins. Hiswinningbthe job would not surprise me.

In an ideal world you would redshirt your two Freshmen. I’m afraid we will be forced to play one or both.
