Richt Retires

Miami has no more prestige than Penn State. It might even be easier to win in the Big 10 since Urban is leaving. Franklin and Harbaugh are the two big dogs.

After facing loaded, talented rosters like Minn, Franklin might want to give the ACC Coastal a try

If someone can take advantage of Miami’s talent and recruiting hot bed we are in trouble. The coastal is about to get fun.

Glad we got Collins when the only competition was Liberty and Louisville. This job is a golden opportunity.

I find Richt's retirement very puzzling. As far as I could tell, he still had plenty of gas in the tank.

Miami has been floundering for going on 13 years.

Something happened this year to that team, to that staff.

That's sad, maybe that program just isn't nearly as good as they get credit for

We said same with Richt. People have wondered the same of us.

I dunno. Smart in less than a season was able to capaitalixe the same way on UGAg’s talent that richt failed to do with both them and Da U. I think that speaks to how ööööty of a coach he actually was. No clue about why Golden and others weren’t able to have success.

The last thing I want is a coastal division full of 6-7 win teams, but having a Miami team at their full potential in addition to a Clemson and UGA team on our schedule every year scares the öööö out of me.

He's definitely pulling a Meyer. He started 3 years straight at Miami on fire but just like at ugag he can't follow through. He will be picked up somewhere and will continue to win. Given the right boosters he could pull down a NC. It seems though most p5 schools now reflect the need for instant gratification in relation to national relevancy, and I think too many put capable coaches in a bad position by expecting results too soon rather than letting them build the program a solid foundation.

These schools either blow their load too soon and burnout or it never amounts to anything competitive long-term because the house of cards crumble.

If you disagree, just look at the legacy of dynasty level coaches including saban. Like them or not, the schools and the fanbases usually didn't have high expectations of the coaching hires, and the dynasty programs were built slowly.

Even Tech almost lost the football program in 1980 before Dodd helped secure one hell of an AD, who took the job reluctantly still. 10 years later we got a Natty and are playing at the highest level for almost a decade.

Too simplistic of an answer

Richt's last yr at UGA they went 10-3, his QBs didn't pan out as good as Kirby's have so far

The difference between 10-3 and fired and making it to the CFP for most teams is better play at QB

Since Miami has less talent than UGa bad QB play will leave you at 7-6 and retired under pressure of potential firing

He probably realized that he couldn't rehabilitate the thugs he had in the program and that he couldn't win without more thuggish thugs.

Miami plays too far from campus. The old Orange Bowl was closer, at least. They need a UCF type intimate stadium and attached athletic facilities to ever be relevant again.

Kirby has done the same in his first few years that Richt did in his first few years. The question will be, how long will UGA tolerate the intermittent 8-5 seasons that every coach other than Saban has?

Given the weakness of that division that hasn't shown many signs of changing too much, they might not have to face those kinds of seasons often.

Yeah. Something is going on down there. Strange. FSU, UM, UF, Texas, and several others should win 9-10 games every year.

This exactly. Kirby hasn't done anything yet that Richt didn't do before him.
